Highest number of destinations

Post by OxJabber »

Just played a game (#793346252) where my opponent took 25 destinations and hit all of them... Is that just incredible luck or should I be suspicious?

Try finishing the games faster: especially in big cities it's pretty easy to stack up tickets if you connect all the main cities. 25 is an huge amount, but can be done

Now not the same, and I may be a noob so don't know whats good and whats not.
Did a 3 player on it so no double trains and I was able to finish 18. And I'd say it was easy and got some lucky ones for free. If you go through the middle its quite easy because then even if you don't have one you are more than likely at most 1 train station away.

Guess I should understand what the Big Cities variant means...!

Today I had 2 times 28 tickets. It is not unusual in Big Cities Europe that the players draw tickets until there are only bad destinations left.

Same thing happened to me in Arena (game #796077814). My opponent didn’t even use all of their trains. I believe they had 15-17 leftover. Every single additional route they picked up they magically had. They told me they went through major cities (they didn’t) to get it done and they probably could’ve gotten 31 routes if I hadn’t ended the game. I’m highly suspicious someone found a way to cheat the system…

Yeah i came to see if this happened to anyone else.

I guess it's not breaking the game but definitely exploiting a strategy which results in wildly high scores.

I laughed when my opponent drew and kept all four destination cards two turns in a row. But he completed them, 20 out of 21 cards kept.

Knowing the big cities and their network seems important because he was able to essentially avoid all of the north east third of the board.

Kudos to my opponent but it certainly makes me want to avoid high rated players as it will be very similar gameplay which does take away from the fun.

my game was 794520279

It's not luck and no need to be suspicious. It's an unexpected consequence of the ticket deck used by big cities expansion, start and end are mostly/all the big cities (underlined on the board) so the strategy is connect them as fast as you can, use stations where you got blocked then sit back and draw destinations. Scores of +300 are easy. In a sense it is far less challenging than normal ttr Europe but if both of you have the same strategy there's still a need to hold your nerve, balance placing trains, stations, leaving a gap until last possible moment etc.
Not my favourite mode of play, but interesting to see how it plays out...

Wow, how "magical" it was they had the routes, when they can just choose not to keep any failed routes. We can clearly see they're not keeping all of their cards too, so it's clear they're not just pulling all successes, and are getting rid of the tickets that don't work. Are you claiming there weren't many successes? You just told us they met 25 tickets and would have probably met more if you had let them keep going. You claim they didn't go through any major cities, but do you actually know what the major cities are? Because if they're meeting that many tickets with just those cities, then that sounds pretty major.

IMO Big Cities has broken TTR Europe. I would like the Arena to drop this expansion.
