Corners with changed speed limits confusing

Post by Leander Quest »

Hey!

In the physical version, the speed limit might change with a +/- 1 modifier. If the limit is 3 e.g. and the modifier is +1, a total speed of 4 is allowed. Here on BGA, the UI was changed some weeks ago…the modifier is striked out with a thin line (hard to see)…and the total speed is the final speed without having to calculate “speed limit +/- modifier". Why? Because adding up two values is too difficult? :D

In my opinion this change from the physical version is confusiing…several friends did not see the small, thin line, but only looked at the corner value they were used to.

Can it be changed back? Am I the only one that dislikes this change?

I for one find it easier to not make mistakes, if the large number in the corner is the one that counts for the game. Too easy to overlook a modifier, especially in turn-based mode. I very much like the change.

Many players just kept forgetting about the speed modifiers of corners and we were getting plenty "notabug" reports. Not only you have two speeds displayed now (with one strikethroughed), but you also have a color on the speed itself, green if the max speed was increased, red if max speed was decreased. I do believe it is enough to distinguish from the "normal" case where only one speed is displayed in black.
No, it cannot be changed back. I don't know if other players would want that, I haven't seen any suggestion about that since the new UI was deployed.

The new way is certainly superior. You just look at the big number and that's what counts.
The only way the new design could be worse is if you have memorized the boards and think that no modification applies.

I found it confusing at first, but have come around and find it superior after giving it a chance.

I have also adapted to the change, and now prefer it. Admittedly I was guilty of missing the +/- modifier in the past, and the new version seems more strikingly obvious that the larger, coloured number is the new corner speed. I suspect the only way to garner favour to change it back would be submitting a bug with votes, but that sounds unlikely from this thread.
