The secret 6 round limit

Post by roxxkatt »

I recently played Daybreak #825847558 with a triple challenge card, and was on track for an easy win, and decided to play the last cards the next turn, when I learned about the secret 6 round limit in the worst possible way.
I don't know if BGA has a replay function but if they do you can watch it to get angry too if you want.
Daybreak is a great game, but is there a way to put "Round 2 of 6" and "Last Round" at the top during gameplay instead of in tiny letters at the bottom of a wall of text at the bottom of the page?
The user I was playing with mentioned that it was buried in the rules and that there is some small text on the right, but I suspect most people playing Daybreak don't know about the secret 6 turn limit, because I sure didn't.
I have possibly played a hundred times and this is the first time I have even heard about this.

I understand your frustration about losing this way, but come on, own your mistake and don't blame the game implementation.
The round limit is neither secret nor "buried in the rules". It's even in the first sentences of the short rules and of course mentioned in the end conditions.
Whether you can see easily in which round you are, depends on your game layout and display size, so I can't judge.

Welcome to BGA. There's definitely a replay function.

The game log indicates the round number.

It's not buried. They're very up front about it in the rules.
In fact, they're also up front about it on the bord. There's a clear round tracker right there and the red X that indicates you've lost once you go past 6. It's the same red X next to the 12 communities in crisis on the player boards and in a couple other game-ending places. They've been very consistent in that area.

Respectfully, we may simply disagree on this point. I'd wager most players do know about the limit. It's advertised pretty well. It's on the board, plainly in the rules, and even at the bottom of the page in the How to Play section while you're playing.

Sorry this happened to you. It really stinks to take a dive that seems to come out of nowhere. We've hit the round limit in our in-person playing, too, where it's doubly obvious because we're trying to advance the round marker and there's nowhere to advance it to (except the red X).

To be honest, it could be made more obvious. There has been many a game on BGA where I dived in without reading the rules because a good BGA game adaption will kinda hold your hand while playng it.
