Language is a source of misunderstanding. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery: The Little Prince) But it is also the source of understanding - it all depends on how you use it. :-)

At this point many have internet again but are also choosing not to reconnect yet with Westerners because of course our phone numbers will look suspicious and be much more likely to get them in trouble when times are tense, and this is obviously one of those times. Some of my friends recently came back to say they were ok but then removed themselves from groups where they have identifiable connections with us, like Whatsapp. Some of them have anonymous chat apps that don't communicate directly to our personal phone numbers, but I don't know anything about those. Of course I can't blame them and I have to be patient until they feel safe talking again. But at least I know they're ok.
