Coaching?

Post by taylortjc »

I love this game but seem to constantly lose, I've read guides, tried different strategies but I just can't seem to win on here! Does someone wanna play a game and critique my style?

You can always post a replay here and people can critique it for you

I'm always happy to play a game and explain/teach stuff. Hit me up with a friendly game whenever you feel like it.

I enjoy coaching more than playing myself! Feel free to reach out to me. I don't play quite as often anymore but I am always happy to go through games.

this makes me wonder - is there a coaching mode that lets you see a player's game live (and only them, not their opponents) so you can better coach them?

Feel free to join the hodgepodge discord https://discord.gg/nFxUhrkQnp and many of us will be quite happy to review your games.

Another thing people often do is stream their games while other people watch and give comments or feedback.

Happy to play a friendly/unrated game too - just set up the game and I'll describe what I'm trying to do and my understanding of some key game dynamics.

As a general tip: trying the game in solo mode can help massively too. When I started playing the game many moons ago, I played it in solo mode regularly. That was a big help getting to grips with the game mechanics. If you're a premium member, my tip would be to try a couple of solo games here on BGA. Expect that the first few attempts you won't complete the basic objective of full terraforming within the 14 generations you have if you play the base game, or 12 generations if you play with Preludes. There are some major differences between solo and regular play with others that you need to take into account when you play against others - competition for milestones and awards, hate cards, assessing who benefits from a shorter or longer game and so on. But solo has its charms if you are starting out, and here on BGA you can complete a game in about half an hour once you get the hang of it.
