Confirmation of end of turn/ undo action

Post by feli-pon »

I don't understand why there's no end-of-turn confirmation, and the ability to undo actions that don't affect the game, as is the case in other BGA games and online versions of Arnak. Although, the lack of confirmation exists in many other games. If you accidentally click on a valid but unwanted action, your turn ends.

Yes I wish all games that new information wasn't revealed on would let you undo or backtrack your turn.
In Carcassone Hunters and Gatherers there isn't even the meeple placement preview that normal Carcassone has which is helpful. Both could use an undo function though because so often you place a tile and then realize what you wanted to claim on it is already connected to a claimed feature but there's no undo option and you're screwed even though in real life you'd be able to move and place it elsewhere.

If it were as easy as checking an "include undo" box, every game would have it. Instead, it's complicated, bug-prone, and thankless. It needs to be manually implemented for each individual game. No matter how much time we pour into it, someone's angry about it still. I do choose to include undo on most games now, but players should understand that budgets and limited time exist, so it's a development tradeoff, not a simple inclusion.

A confirmation button, on the other hand, is fairly trivial to add. If you're hoping for real improvement on specific games, that would be a good place to start.

The guideline on BGA is to make interactions as smooth as possible by minimizing multiple clicks.
As such, confirmations are not prioritized.
However, it is often possible to enable them in the preferences (the hamburger menu in the top right) if you are concerned about misclicks or simply want extra safety.
