Why Didn't I Win?

I just played a round of this game where I was the first to get three trios, but the game kept going. The next player then got three 7s and was declared the winner. Is there some new rule I don't know about?

You were using the spicy variant, so the game ran until someone completed 2 linked trios or the trio of 7s
