Agreed nik. All of the above. Many ways to do it. That would be a lot fairer than seniority rule. And should be very easy to implement. But no matter what they do. The ones that lose the random draw will complain the process is rigged. It is what sore losers do.

I think they are low key trying to reward players for being loyal to the site (although this is not a very accurate notion because someone can be a long established member but not connect very often).

It kinda makes sense from their perspective, but it doesn't seem to align with how real sports competitions work, as the idea of picking winners based on "seniority" would probably be reviled there. We generally want people to earn their spot (even if in some cases it has to be through luck) rather than just declare someone more worthy just because they've been in the discipline for longer.

Rewarding loyalty is ok , but doing it at the expense of newer players like that is just crazy.

Yes, it is fine to give paying and long time members some advantages, but it should never interfere with the competition side of things.
