I tried this game because there is a new campaign on gamefound.com, but after trying this I doubt I will be funding the project. Has anyone played the real game?
Is the real game as bad as the bga version?

Might help people be able to answer you by stating what you didn't like about it. Or what you were hoping to see. A vague "is it as bad as this always" isn't really a question that is easily answerable as everything is subjective.
Edit: I'm also curious if you have even played a full game yet. I think I would have a hard time judging a game if I haven't actually played through the game. I see that you have started 12 games and 10 of them didn't last more than 5 minutes. The remaining two were both abandoned after just a few moves.

It sounds like this guy is suffering from user error and a distinct lack of discipline. Barely playing a game for 5 min and then complaining about it.
My best guess is they either couldn't figure out the UI, couldn't figure out the rules of the game, jumped in to the game without reading the rules, or some combination of these.
Re: Is the real game as bad as the bga version?
The game keeps giving me an duplicate card in discard error after only 3-4 nodes and can't continue farther. Understanding its a beta version this is expected. The thing im not liking with game play revolves around running out of dice, after several attempts I've only seen 2 campfires, and every attempt has started me with enemies with 6 or more health. I can bribe the first but the next requires half the dice in the pool and if I get to a wolfpack node it's over.

Give Solar Sentinels a try first then you will have a balanced perspective: https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?ga ... rsentinels
20 Strong is a "framework", each game plays a bit different with the dice management as the constant. I've played both with the physical decks and haven't beaten it yet, but it causes me to rethink my approaches. Red is more like a tower Rogue-style. I'm really looking forward to Rose and Etherfields.

I have played a physical copy. Beaten the game a couple of times (but at 1st difficulty only). There are some good heroes and some very weak (cat in the boots). The full game takes about 2-2.5 hrs which is crazy long for such small solo game. You have a lot of choices and that is taking the time.
I didn't like BGA version just because on a table everything is bigger and foiled cards look so pretty.

The game is a puzzle with push your luck elements. You need to balance a limited supply of dice and decide how many to commit to beat challenges and progress. If you use too many, you’ll run out of dice pretty soon; if you commit too few, you’ll run might have a hard time beating challenges. That’s the main loop of the game. Then based on which deck you’re using (Solar Sentinels, Tanglewood Red/Gold/White/Rose, Too Many Bones, etc.) just add new mechanisms on top of this base loop.
The first few games would likely take 1.5h, but as you get acquainted with the system and the challenges, each game should easily run below 60 min.
2-2.5h is really a lot of time; I can only suppose that’s due to serious AP on each challenge.Verrjerah wrote: ↑16 April 2026, 19:57 I have played a physical copy. This is a true-to-nature game of luck. In the physical world, you can make house rules until the dice outcomes are intuitive. Without that, this game can be harsh. People replay lost battles, give themselves an extra roll, etc., when playing on YouTube if they have not played a lot. But then I watch someone who knows the game, Alex, for example, and they go to the boss. They pick enough dice and the right upgrades, and it works.

Game developer here (but not a BGA employee). Did you report the error? I personally fix all bugs like this in less than 48 hours, usually in less than 8 hours. (Can't be any faster because I have to sleep and go to my full-time job.)
You may have been playing on April 15th when the duplicate card bug appeared. You can see the submitted bug report here:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=215541
Take note that the bug was reported at midnight (my local time) and fixed approximately 8 hours later, while I was still eating breakfast before work.
I appreciate the understanding. We work really hard to provide a good gameplay experience, even if the game itself doesn't turn out to be your perfect fit.
