Volothamp wrote: 12 March 2026, 22:51 Hello!

I organized a tournament with ELO restriction today and had 2 players over that ELO. I wonder if the choice we make to restrict ELO is more for an indication? Or is it supposed to naturally keep only players with the right ELO?

Thanks for your answer!
Hi Volothamp,
You should write your entry/bug here : "New Tournament Pages are here: Better, Faster, and Mobile-Friendly!" after this last entry https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... &start=302

Could it even be a bug? What happens if a player's elo changes after they sign up for the tournament? Should they be kicked from the tournament?

I suppose the ELO taken in account is the current ELO at subscription time.

I'm pretty sure at least for a reputation requirement, there's a check that you meet the conditions when you subscribe to the tournament, but it checks again when the tournament is about to begin. And if you drop below 20% karma, you automatically get booted from all tournaments, including ones in progress.

I think ELO requirements however only get checked at subscription, so your ELO can rise or fall out of the range by the time the tournament starts and you still get to play.

3 choices:
* Top-right menu > quit game. You'll quit that game, receive a penalty. Every other player in the game will be classed as the winner. You'll be eliminated from the tournament as it's an elimination-tournament not a swiss-system.
* Tournament main page > quit tournament. You'll get a reputation penalty and won't be put in a game in the next round. You'll still be in that particular game table though.
* Wait for the game to expire. Maximum game length for that tournament is 1 month. That game has been ongoing for 23 days. Players will be given a 1st/2nd/3rd/etc position based on how much time they have remaining on the clock. You will proceed to the next round of the tournament and a new game will start.

This is the wrong FAQ, Arena is different from tournaments. You can check the right FAQ: https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=f ... sarenawork

Thanks, it's nice to have that maximum game length for situations like this. I was going to wait but... "Table abandoned
The game was abandoned automatically because the players did not manage to finish it before the next round of the Tournament. The player with the most remaining thinking time wins the game." That works also.
