Suggestions about programming from scratch a tridimensional abstract game

Post by Etoclas »

Hi everyone!

I'm Marco, and I would like to bring my tridimensional abstract game here on BGA, but it seems very complex to do.
I have been studying some HTML, CSS and JS to start with, but I would like to understand the best path to follow to be able to learn everything I need.

The game is called Block Arena and you can find it here: BGG (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/262157/block-arena)

EDIT: the game has already been developed by a developer that offered to do it for free (https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=blockarena), but that version doesn't have a camera like the one in Santorini (that's smoother and easier to use). Additionally, in this moment I don't have the money to hire another developer and change some mechanics of the game or add the nicer camera, so I would like to learn it by myself and create a new version.

I would like to use these elements:

- 8 parallelepiped blocks 1x1x2 that rotate, flip and slide;
- 2 meeples that move on the blocks without touching the board;
- a board with 9x9 squares;
- a rotating camera (like the one used in Santorini http://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=santorini).

I am not concerned about timings, I am not in a rush. I'm asking AI for some suggestions and roadmaps, but it seems a bit confusing.
Do you maybe have any suggestions about what to study and in which order? What not to study and what to focus on?
And, lastly, it is really feasible to study all of this in as a free time activity, in your opinion? If not, what would be the cost to pay a developer to work on it?

I would be really grateful for any help!
Thank you and have a great day!

The project has already been developed...?

And it's 3-D.

Hi Ricardo!
Yes, I just edited the original post because I forgot to mention it: the game has already been developed by a developer that offered to do it for free , but that version doesn't have a camera like the one in Santorini (that's smoother and easier to use). Additionally, in this moment I don't have the money to hire another developer and change some mechanics of the game or add the nicer camera, so I would like to learn it by myself and create a new version.

I think that's quite optimistic, but that is up to you. Good luck.

Personally I have zero knowledge of 3-D. But you can always FTP and download the source code for almost any game on BGA Studio.

You could take a look at EINSTEIN and some abstracts that has 3-D released recently.

For BGA, go here: https://studio.boardgamearena.com/
It won't help you get your mind back. :/
