Blue cards - against the odds ?

Post by _Redlum_ »

There are 8 blue cards out of a total of 78 cards in the game. So the likelihood of drawing a blue card is about 1 in 10. However, it is very frequent these days that most of the blue cards get drawn in any given round. That's statistically very unlikely. I have played several thousand games so far, and this is a new behaviour. In the past, players would very rarely get more than 1 blue card per round. I am curious to know if other players feel the same.

This is a great observation. I notice that I don’t get many blue cards because my opponent has at least 2 per round. Without actual data, it’s difficult to analyze.

I was told by a non paying player that a lot of oddities happen in the games to keep the paying members happy/winning and paying for their membership. That lucky draw of the exact cards you need in Cribbage, Ticket to Ride or Mojo might not just be luck. Once you see it you can’t unsee it! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Luck can be absolutely brutal sometimes! We’ve all had those matches where it feels like the universe is personally out to get us while our opponent gets every single card they need. It’s incredibly frustrating when it happens.

The tricky thing with digital platforms is that our brains are naturally wired to look for patterns to explain that frustration. It’s a classic case of confirmation bias: we tend to vividly remember the times an opponent got a 'miracle draw' because it felt so unfair, but we easily forget the hundreds of games where the draws were just average or where we were the ones getting lucky.

In fact, these 'rigged' theories are so common that even the developers have joined in on the fun. You might have seen the officially announced 'Luck Adjustment' features from April 1st - where they joked about adding a 'Home Advantage' for Premium members or a 'Beneficial' mode to force lucky streaks. It was a perfect April Fool's prank because it poked fun at exactly these kinds of myths.

Ultimately, it’s just the raw, sometimes cruel nature of random number generation. Hang in there - with millions of games played on the site, those 'one-in-a-million' streaks are bound to happen, but the dice usually swing back in your favor eventually! In games with high variance, someone is bound to get the perfect hand eventually. If BGA was really rigging games for payers, I’d like to know where my 'Premium Luck' is, because I’ve been a premium member for years and I still get terrible rolls! 😂 It’s just the nature of the dice, unfortunately.
