zig zagging around other vehicles

I was taking a closer look at the rules, and the rules do not specifically state if I am allowed to zig zag around multiple cars on the same lane. For an example, in one of the games I am now in, I rolled fairly high on my blue roll and have 2 cars in front of me on the same lane. In theory, I should be able to zig zag around both of them, bleeding off speed and spaces towards my next corner, but it only allowed me one zig zag around both vehicles. Is this a common practice, or a house rule? I used to play with a group that, 4 cars in that lane, zig around every one of them, because the rule says we are allowed to zig zag around the cars without penalty. What does the rest of the group think?

It says pretty clearly in the rules section below the game "The maneuver must be completed using the smallest number of spaces possible.", so if there is shorter route to your destination, you must take that instead. Though I do note that this rule set seems to have left out that you are allowed to treat hazard tiles as obstacles for the purpose of this computation.
