For my part I understand the controversy and I also wouldn't play the axis in ww2 games or even secret Hitler.

Should the French be offended by Waterloo? Are all Greeks in high dudgeon about any game based on the Battle of Thermopylae? Should the English refuse to play any Robin Hood themed game? As an "American" I am not even slightly offended by games based on the Vietnam War. There are more board games about U.S. based gangsters such as Al Capone than I can enumerate off the top of my head.
Were you offended by slave depiction on the recent Ace of Spades, or by Puerto Rico's workers? On BGG those games get slaughtered by americans. But apparently this game is fine, because the setting is far from their sensibility. If you want to enforce a standard let it be consistent.

There's a very easy fix for anyone that's offended by this game. Don't play it. Don't buy it. Don't look at it. ;)
