See points/aare of opponents?

Post by AyDubz »

Is there a place where my opponents total Aare is displayed? I only see my points next to my player name.

Looking at the hard copy game, it appears aare is tracked by tokens that would be on the table, so imo that would be open knowledge to other players.

Is this an oversight in the digital development, or an intentional design choice? I haven't researched the hard copy rules extensively, so perhaps points are meant to be hidden. If it is ambiguous I wouldn't mind opponents point total being a configurable option like many other games. What do you all think?

I agree, that should be an option.

It's a note in the corner of the rulebook that it's recommended to play with score hidden. I absolutely despise hidden information that is completely trackable, but if memory is part of the game then we should hide the game log, too...

It does seem silly that the points of your opponents are hidden, since you can just count them, but I guess in Smallworld you could do the same thing if you counted their points every round.
The thing is, there is no point worrying about how many points somebody else has, because you want to get to 50 as fast as possible. The only possible strategy that could ensue is deciding before bidding whether you want to go for an upgrade card or for points in a particular round, based on whether someone is close to winning or not, but ideally you get upgrades early on, and then just get points quickly.
I think it is
a) a fair point to make,
b) is also totally fair that points are hidden.
