How come arena is 2 player now?

I much preferred arena being 3 player. The game feels at its most controllable and strategic at 3 player in my opinion. Anyone know why it's been changed and is it just for this season or permanent?

For all games, the version which goes out on Arena varies with each season. Usually there's a vote conducted to decide which it should be.
P.S. It is just as strategic at 2 players, it's just a different strategy, so if you're a regular 3-player, you'll feel like you have to learn the game from scratch.

2 player architect is boring and with barely any strategy

Each season a group of players are selected as "gurus" based on amount of time played in that specific game.The gurus vote each season on changes or keeping the game the same for the upcoming season. This past season the gurus voted to switch it to a 2 player game. I was a guru then and voted to keep it 3 players. I do not like the 2 player game! So my friends, the best thing to do is grind out some games and get into the guru group. BGA will notify you on your messages tab, and you can then jump to the group page. And for God's sake vote to switch it back to 3!! I don't have guru status now because I basically quit playing the game for the season on principal.

I love 2 player. There is so much strategy with it. I feel like it's so easy to get one bad player in a three person game that just helps the other person

The main problem is the ELO gap; the 3-player would be more fun if you're not sure to get a 100 Elo player when your average Elo is 500.

Your ELO doesn't make a difference. It's how many games you play in a month, compared to other players on that particular game. The three games you named are all super popular, so yeah, the bar is high. But there are also minimum requirements to be eligible for guru in ANY game: your karma and length of time on BGA. Anyway, the gurus often change up the settings on popular games from one season to the next, to give different formats a chance. Plenty of people DO like 2-player (I love the speed of play and 1-1 strategy, not to mention the ease of finding a match) so if you don't like a particular format, just be patient, it will switch up again before long.
