Watching a couple youtube videos helped my strategy because I kept dying about a third of the way in. One thing I found particularly helpful is using the scouted enemies to your advantage. See one coming up that has a really bad power? make sure you have enough to bribe. see one that doesn't let you use purple? Make sure you have enough of your other dice colors available. Dark fairy coming? Exhaust all of your dice on the enemy right before it, etc. Also, getting the boring cloak and upgrading it to rainbow cloak is always a must. I don't think I've won a game without it.
As someone mentioned above, choosing the right hero is important. I think I've had the most luck with Pied Piper. Now that I understand the strategy better, I win about half the time.
