How to start a game

I'm relatively new on this site, have played a bit of Catan, Heat and few other games. I've been trying to get a game of Azul for a month now and can't figure how to get one. Every time I host a game no one joins, try to join a game get kicked instantly. I realize that people want to play with higher rated players, but how do I get higher gating when I cannot even start a game.

Are there specific settings people play or is it that I'm forced to buy premium to play?

Your karma is 55%. Some people have filters set that exclude karma that low automatically. Some people don't know how to set karma filters, but nonetheless don't want to play with someone with karma that low, so that may be why you get kicked.

Yes, probably worth building your reputation by finishing some other games. Fast games like Cant Stop and martian dice are good for this.
