Need to be able to talk in tourney chat during registration.

Post by yodamus »

Why can't I use the tourney chat during registration, before tourney starts. Red flag. Need to be part of group. All I want to do is inform the tourney maker that they have thier minimum and maximum participants the same. Seen many of these. Accidently joined a couple and wondered why it did not start. I should be able to use the tourney chat to inform them of thier error. And why is there not a pop-up informing the tourney maker that they have the same number. Seen many 512 max. 512 needed to start. Those will never start and I see over 100 joined. So over 100 get a bad experience when tourney goes poof.

1. You can post on the wall/comment-box of the tournament before the tournament starts (EDIT: if you are registered). The tournament creator will get a notification.
2. You can direct-message the tournament creator in a chat.

To note - tournament creators cannot change a single setting once someone registers. They'll have to cancel the whole thing and recreate it.

So where is this wall/comment box. I do not see what you are talking about. I just see a tab for tournament chat. Which I cant use. And 2nd choice. Send creator a message. And what happens when creator is not happy with stranger sending messages to him telling him thier tourney is messed up. . I get a warning from bga for sending the message and I may get my attempt help turned back on me when creator reports me. No thanks. Tourney creators need guidelines. I am seeing so many horribly made tourneys. Not helping with the decline in tourneys. I never see a lot of the games I used to play in tourneys. Tourney update damaged tourney scene forever

You can use it by registering for the tournament. Then you can withdraw before it starts.

Are you registered for the tournament? You can only write on walls of tournaments you're signed up to - otherwise tournament walls would be a mess if literally anyone could post on them.

I registered for tourney to be able to talk. Then I get message I cant talk, until the day the tourney starts. So I withdrew, since tourney was never to start. And as you informed me. It would not matter as they cant change it. Makes me think even more they need a message to stop creators from making that mistake. I wanted to help. Oh well. They need a revamped tourney creator guide. Especially for multi player tourneys

I agree that it would be good to be able to have a discussion with other people before a tournament starts. I mean, what is the downside?

On a related note, I don't understand why tournament chats get automatically deleted a few hours after a tournament has ended. Is this just a memory storage issue, or is there a particular reason for that?

You'd be less likely to be reported if you politely asked them if their settings are intentional and then offered your own opinion, instead of assuming they made a mistake and telling them their tournaments are terrible.

There is no reason to use the tournament chat if you just want to inform the tournament organizer about something. Just use the personal chat with the organizer for that.

I think if too many people are allowed to chat with big tournament crowds, there could be some abuses happening. I cannot really think of a good reason why you'd want an immediate message board to all tournament participants days before the tournament starts if you are not the tournament organizer. Have a forum style board before and after tournament, and a direct tournament chat only for participants during the tournament seems like a clean cut solution to me.

If you are polite and constructive, you shouldn't get any penalty. And what makes you think that it's better to talk with the whole tournament crowd directly, how would it make you less likely to get reported? If anything, you get more likely reported for abuse of chatroom or something.

You have 2 choices:
- Message the organizer directly
- Register, make a post on the announcement board (top left), unregister. The organizer gets notified, the others see it if they are lucky.
