Spooky Tower: Who You Gonna Snap?

Post by BalGAmor »

Climbing a tower sounds simple enough... until the tower starts fighting back. For centuries, a powerful amulet has kept ghosts prisoner in the old clock tower. The amulet shattered, and the only way to trap ghosts is by taking photos of them. Capture hidden ghosts, or mend the amulet to restore the protection spell and save the town from terror!

In Spooky Tower, players race to guide their pieces to the top, but getting there is never as easy as it looks. What starts as a straightforward climb quickly turns into a tense battle of timing, risk, and trying not to watch your plans crumble just when victory seems within reach.

Every turn asks the same question: do you push forward, or do you play it safe? Moving quickly can put you in the lead, but it can also leave you exposed when the tower throws an unexpected twist your way. Hang back for too long, and another player may rush past while you wait for the perfect moment.

Fortunes can change quickly: a player who seems unstoppable can suddenly lose their advantage, while someone trailing behind finds the perfect chance to climb back into the race. It keeps everyone engaged because no lead ever feels truly safe, and no player is ever really out of the running.

The spooky theme gives the game a playful atmosphere without ever slowing down the action. It’s competitive, unpredictable, and full of those moments where everyone around the table reacts at once, whether it’s cheering, groaning, or laughing at an unexpected reversal.

Spooky Tower turns a simple race to the top into a lively contest full of suspense and surprises. Have a look at the tutorial, and if you think you’ve got the nerve to keep climbing when the pressure rises, the tower is waiting.

We would like to thank Jonathan Favre-Godal and Corentin Lebrat, the game designers, as well as everyone at Repos Production, the publisher, for giving us the opportunity to add their game to our platform. A big shout out to tchobello and MathCT for their port to BGA.

This was your [del]climbing[/del] Monday release.
What goes up does not always stay up, so take care and play fair...

Seems like a fun little game. Going through the tutorial, my only issue with the implementation here is that most actions cause the relevant card to disappear quite quickly. Flipping a card, you barely have time to see the icons before it's gone, for example. (Unless that's a side-effect of the tutorial?)

Huh? What pieces?
This description was obviously written by AI, as were a lot (all?) of the latest ones (see Spyworld, for example).

And poorly done, at that. I asked an LLM to write a two-paragraph summary of the game intended to make people want to play it. The difference between what I did and what BalGAmor presumably did? I pointed it at the rule book first.

Here’s what it wrote… it’s still obvious AI crap, and would still be obvious somebody was too lazy to do a real write-up, but at least it’s not describing a completely different game!
Spooky Tower: A Ghost-Hunting Adventure

Spooky Tower is a thrilling dice-rolling game where escaped ghosts haunt a town and only you can capture them. For centuries, a powerful amulet locked ghosts away in an old clock tower, but the amulet shattered—and now spectral chaos reigns! Armed with nothing but your camera, you explore the town at night, hunting for hidden ghosts in buildings and the surrounding park. On each turn, you roll dice to decide your strategy: grab building cards to collect clues and artifacts, or flip the cards you already hold to reveal photos that might contain a ghost in disguise. Every choice matters, and the iconic clock tower looms over the action, adding mysterious effects that can turn the tide of the game.

What makes Spooky Tower irresistible is the perfect blend of luck and strategy wrapped in a spooky, atmospheric package. You might race to capture 5 ghosts to become a legendary Ghost Hunter, or outmaneuver opponents by collecting 3 amulet fragments to restore the protective spell—giving you two exciting paths to victory. The beautiful card art, clever hidden ghosts, and special bonus effects keep every turn unpredictable and engaging. Whether you're banking on a lucky dice roll or carefully managing your reroll token, Spooky Tower delivers fast-paced, suspenseful fun that's perfect for game night.
