or you could restrict forum posts to someone with Angel status:
Angel: this is the grade of regular players. To be promoted to this grade, you need: 3 days seniority, 3 games played and 3 positive reputation points.
then just have a separate sub.forum where pre-Angels can post new questions. this should have an FAQ pinned as the top topic of course, with an explanation of how to get Angel status so they can post in the rest of the forum.

you could also trying having a 10 topics per hour restriction as a backup. anyone trying to post after that .. gets a nice warning to slow down .. and also sends a forum admin a message to indicate a possible forum spammer.

you can also add 'forum spammer' as an option for reporting a player .. just tried to do that with kissbae26: "did something else inappropriate" is the only option that fits right now .. and the forum isn't listed in the options for where it happened .. so i just used 'wall comment'.

I dont think it would be a good idea to take away from newbies the chance to ask stuff in the forums.

A restriction to a number of new threads would be a good start, for sure

well considering the massive number of spam threads recently, a restriction is absolutely needed.

Possible Filters:
* One game done before be allowed to post.
* No asian characters, everyone use latin (we are french, and we write in english, it's most standard)
* Allow some members to moderate (for example club members, then spamer will pay if they want to spam :) )
* the last solution "You cannot make another post so soon after your last."... is not a good one i think ... I got this pb to post each time :< :< :<

That doesn't fit with the multi-language policy of BGA. The Translations forum actually makes frequent (and appropriate) use of non-latin characters.

Your other two suggestions are good, but may require significant work because you'd have to make phpBB ask info to the main site's database.

Yes, that one seems to be more harmful to actual posters than real spammers.

Definitely agreed. Got to wait for a really long time if you wanna make just 2 or 3 posts. I don't know what's te number but it looks like one hour ... an eternity if you want to say useful things on two diffrent threads.

2 ideas:

- Information about the amount of time you have to wait until next post would be nice

- Restrict by time-limit only for Mortal-Status. New users usually don't post in different threads and if they want to it's not impossible - but they can't spam easily.

I don't understand this choice.
The normal posters aren't spammers but there are equal with this, for PM too.
To block spammers, 1 or 2 seconds is often enough.

@Cox: no, 1 or 2 seconds is not enough .. the previous spambots posted hundreds of topics in an hour.

however, i've also had qualms about the long delay between posts for 'real' discussion. could that timer restriction be only applied to starting new posts, excluding replies to existing posts ?

most of the spambots seemed to want to monopolize the forum with multiple similar topics, rather than spamming new posts into existing topics. and if they spam into their own single created topic each hour ... big whoop ;)
