How much luck is involved in TM?

Wow. It doesn't even seem as though anyone has ever reached 600 Elo in 7 Wonders. There are games in which people have been able to reach an Elo 100_ points higher than an Elo anyone can maintain, but that's not even the case in 7 Wonders. I often felt as though some unlucky events could completely derail a 7 Wonders game for me. This seems to be confirmation.

Before I had looked at the Elo leaderboard and historical graphs, I would have agreed that 7 Wonders is a lot more luck-based than TFM. This information reinforces that belief.

It doesn't change anything but there were 600 elo players in 7w; around one player per arena season. Highers achieved Elo as far as i know is 655 by WonderFull Place https://boardgamearena.com/player?id=84 ... n=prestige

Theres lots of luck but also lots you can do to mitigate luck and games last a long time so plenty of time for a player weaker than you to blunder. Theres also lots you can do to bait plays and force opponent mistakes.

Mostly becomes less interesting if two very high rated players compete because then it can largely be decided on luck. It's why I'm less interested to play Corvus but games vs most 600-700 can still be interesting

Sadly almost all random games had a problem that top leves matches not that interesting

I mean... T Mars is a game with randomness (which I what I presume whomever wrote 'random game' meant...), yet here we are playing it often, chatting about it...

well, in my opinion, if you take any 500 ELO+ player, this game will be based on luck like 80% ))
I am happy to play 100 games with someone to see the result. I assume it will be around 50/50

I dont know if it is right to make a decision based on different opponents, not plays with exact same person.
I can bet if you will play with Corvus 100 matches, it will be near 50/50

Well, I would bet that I'd win under 40. Anyway there is a noticable gap between corvus and me, then there is a gap between me and let's say you, and then there is a gap between you and some 500 elo guy. There is enough skill expression in the game to make a difference over a prolonged set of games.
