Thank you Een for implementing this change!Een wrote:Time has shown that the proportion of games setting 'killer' for the first player has only been growing. So players are indeed using this option in a quest for ELO at the expense of fair play (this is actually quite sad).
Here is the fix we have implemented: now there is only two options, 'random' and 'first player is the inspector'. This way, you can still have a return match with roles switched by coordinating so that the player whose turn it is to be the inspector creates the game and sets the option, but the player creating the game can no more select killer for himself just to maximize his chances to win.
Hope this will make things more fair regarding ELO for Noir.

Re: Niorkvi Question
We are waiting upon the designer to tell us if he decided to adjust some rules following his BGG post from the end of July. Playtesting new rules is a lengthy process, so we have no idea about how long this will take (also, the designer may have other priorities, for example filling out orders for two very successful kickstarter campaigns: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/le ... ics-deluxe and https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/le ... board-game).senatorhung wrote: are you still figuring out with the game designer about how to make the game itself more balanced ? i would be ecstatic to see a 2d win condition for the inspector (all characters other than inspector and killer declared innocent).
Yes, it happened a couple timessenatorhung wrote: has there ever been a situation where the game designer adjusted the offline game rules based on a BGA suggestion made after online play ?? that would be a sweet accomplishment.
But this happens with all feedback from players, be it from physical or online play. From the idea to the box, board games are nurtured from player feedback.

Thanks for the changes. Unfortunately we now have those unfair players who will set up a table with first player inspector. And as soon as someone joins they quit and rejoin. If the configuration is set to random they will quit the table completely.
So the change worked for just a few of those who use table options to get unfair advantages.
Does the point still stand that they should be reported? You said so a while ago

Always difficult to find a system that can't be abused by people inclined to do so. No idea for a fix on this one, but they should get a bad rep through red thumbs over time.
Oh well, at least this way, the other player finds himself admin of the table and can revert to "random".
Still, you can send me a PM with the nicknames of the players you have seen doing this.
Not promising any action at this point, but if their name come up again in other contexts, we'll see.

Roles should be added randomly, really

Good grief. Some people are unbelievable. All for just for some silly ELO number.qwertasdfg wrote:Thanks for the changes. Re: Niorkvi Question
I would suggest this:
After 10 innocent inspector has bigger range - two cards right, left, up and down but still 1 in diagonal direction. So now the killer must be careful, as his range is smaller than the range of inspector.
After 16 innocent inspector can use "double turn" - inspector can play two moves in one turn. But only once for whole game.
OR another suggestion:
Inspector can change his identity once per game even for a character, that has been proved innocent.
I think that it would really change the win/lose ratio.
The disguise tactics (kill one character in the first move and then "jump" all over the board, sometimes kill the innocent) is almost unbeatable. As the inspector you can win ONLY if the killer makes a big mistake.

Resurrecting this thread...
I'm curious if there's any plans on changing this game to make it more balanced and fair? This game would be so much more fun and challenging if the inspector had an equal chance of winning.
