Among the three zones, wetland is the least used (ideally, you shouldn’t use it more than 4-5 times per game), so good abilities there less useful — except for draw / cycling abilities that let you reduce the number of those actions. Therefore, among the three locations, abilities in the wetland are the least useful.

As for the BushTit, I don’t like its food to points ratio - 2 points is very little for two food. To get more points, you need to have spare cards, which in most cases means something in the game went less than ideally. Moreover, if you think about it, double activation of the Bushtit lets you convert two cards into 4 points, but two cards often equal one action in the wetland — an action you could have spent on something that gives more than 4 points at the end of the game. Of course, it allows you to get rid of unwanted cards, but those cards can be used in other ways — discard them for food, cycle them, or in the end simply keep one extra card in hand, since a single activation of the Bush Tit isn’t that good. Also, the cost of two food makes it expensive for the early game, while two points are usually too few for rounds 3–4.

On the plus side: the nest (which is why people usually take it) and the possibility of getting a few extra eggs early on, which could potentially save back you a turn.

This is a very interesting discussion. It’s quite surprising because the game reminds me of one I recently reviewed by the top player on BGA: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=850347066
And of course, it also closely resembles what I consider to be the best possible theoretical game, also mentioned by illy831 (see https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43801)

I’ve personally tried this strategy successfully in two or three games (though it’s less impressive to share ^^)

This setup is hard to achieve (in most games), but once you have in the wetlands a bird to get eggs and a bird to get food, it’s relatively easy to get the birds that complete the setup because the strategy lets you see and recycle a lot of cards.
That’s actually one of the great strengths of this setup: we see so many cards that it’s very easy to optimize things, especially the bonus cards.

Thank you so much Groovenstein for sharing; this will push me even further to explore this type of path!
