B/c you pay 23 for 2vp just like a greenery, but the difference is that after you drop this "greenery," the rest of your hand became -2. It pays even on the last gen, that's how amazing earth cat is. And what Corvus said, it's so good you have to put VP on it to nerf it. Yeah, it's pure alpha.
This makes little sense to me: If SP green is your best option to score, I don‘t think the rest of your hand matters that much. Plus what rambling said.

Say you are 400 Elo without saying that you are 400 Elo.

A question:

Assuming we do not know our starting cards, preludes, corporations, but we can have any one card in our starting hand, which card would it be?

I would certainly pick Earth Catapult. Automatic win? Of course not. But it's an excellent head start. Sure, Corvus Mortis (and the other masters) would probably beat me anyway, but that's a "me" issue, not a limitation or weakness of Earth Catapult.

Great question. I’m going for RestrictedArea. I prefer it to all other similar cards. It’s only my preference — feel free to call me crazy. My personal stats back this up: 92% wr across 165 games vs 87% wr across 110 games (AI) or 85% wr across 176 games (MarsU). This scenario makes it even clearer — RestrictedArea goes online gen1.

That's definitely one of my favorite cards. No tag or global requirements, no energy source needed (unlike development center), A tile, placement bonus, science tag, and a cheap card each generation.
It's especially great in prelude games because usually there are oceans to place the tile next to.

It's the same scoring potential as a city greenery after oxygen is maxed. But also unlock -2 for the rest of your hand, so if you have two cards left and can either play sp greenery or earth cat, it's earth cat. Earth cat is just that good, it's pure and more consistent than AI. Even if AI has more upswing, earth cat is safer.

In this case, any cards on the vp become useful and the earth catapult is one of the worse of them (depends on how many times you use -2). Tundra farming and phobos , for example, are becoming quite effective cards, but no one can say that they are as good in other aspects of the game.

If we‘re talking EC for 2 more cards, that‘s the same as placing a green next to 2 oceans and, thus, your argument fails again.

We are talking about edgy cases, I am showing you how in the worst case scenario earth cat is viable. Of course if you have good rebate for a SP greenery or a better scoring card you do that. It shows how powerful earth cat truly is, also I am not interested in average players' meta data, I am only interested in engine or alpha. So I could care less about someone like rambling's or even knight's own win rates and tendencies, unless I'm prepping a match against them. Otherwise they are irrelevant. Also how much do you want me to raise my Elo? if I raise it to 700 would that be ok?

I don’t think it makes that great of a difference. If anything — it’s the opposite. Anyway — you raise a very good question. I can imagine there are quite a few cards people would pick: some are great to play gen1; others allow you to wrap the playstyle around them early on. Maybe this topic deserves another thread?
