Can you create invite links to non-premium games as non-premium account?

Post by nervous-chicken387 »

Hello,

I cannot find the answer to this. I try to create a turn-based table for a non-premium game, but I cannot create an invite link. But I can access invite links to other tables for the same game by other non-premium accounts.

So I was wondering, is it possible to create an invite link to turn-based tables for non-premium games as a non-premium account?

Thanks

I think you can do that only via the "Games" menu (on top of the homepage), not via the "Play now".
So, I assume you are here. https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=harmonies

When you look at the table creation, you have a circle with a "plus" right next to your own avatar. Click on the circle with the "plus", and in the window that appears, the second line of text (white text on grey background) says "Invitation link". Moreover, in that window, you can also invite other users directly by their user names.

Here is the structure of the URL that's created with the Invitation Link:
https://bga.li/t/860532644
Here is the structure of the URL on the configuration page reached from the Play Now page (wrapped in the code tag to prevent shortening):

Code: Select all

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=860532644&nr=true
Doesn't clicking either one take you to the game to be able to join it? If so, doesn't the second URL also function as an "invitation link"? Sure, the Invitation Link method automatically copies it to your clipboard, but other than that does the first one have some different functionality?

I think the first type of link is tied to a specific table of a specific game while the second type is there in general to create to a temporary friends group without the need to choose a game first. At least in the Play Now lobby, when you create the link, you can do so before chosing a game.

But I haven't really tried it out honestly.

Both links were from an actual game. I created a game using the method you described and clicked the Invite Link button to get the first URL. Then I went to the Play Now page and found the game that had been created from the other page, i.e., any game you initiate from anywhere else can still be found on the Play Now page as long as it hasn't filled and started. That's why the table numbers match in both URLs. In the rare occasions I invite people from the General Messages chat, I post the Play Now URL and that has worked fine.

But I never *join* games from links, so I don't really know what it looks like from that side of the transaction.

True. In priniciple, you can just create a fresh table in "Play now" and copy/paste the URL from that table shown in the browser to anyone you want to invite. And you can easily invite friends there, too, anyway. So I guess there is not much pro or con between "Games" or "Play now" other than the link from "Games" is shorter.

Anyway, I find it also an interesting feature that you can create links from the "Play with friends" interface in "Play now" that are not tied to a game. You have to click the blue plus "Invite more players" and select the right answers that you don't know the name of whom you want to invite.

That is interesting. What does it look like on their end I wonder?

I guess if i get curious enough I can send one to my wife and screen share her clicking on it.

Hello,

Thanks it has worked. I wonder if there is a tutorial for that that I missed?

There aren't really tutorials for anything other than games. All else is shared through the collective wisdom of the forums (and occasionally the FAQ has an adequate answer).
