Game analysis

Post by Camster »

Hi. I posted a topic earlier asking about how to get better. One suggestion was to post a game and ask for high level analysis. I was hoping someone might be able to take a look at a recent game I lost and point out any major mistakes I made. Thank you for your time!

Starting hands looks mediocre at best. I am curious what the experts have to say about this.

I don't have time for a full review right now but looking at their opening hand it's fine. Not great but has some nice pieces. I think I like Credi with Martian Industries, OCY, AGT, SFL, Invention Contest, Ants, Domed Crater. Mine seems like it's very meh with Ceres in the game but steel scoring targets are good so keep the city. We have 48 cash on hand so we can double sp power to turn on trades with power for gen 2 and still have 26 cash to put a colony on Luna gen 1, could use Invention contest to look for cheaper power/colony/development and I probably would. Ants with Enceledus in the game is a no brainer, I want a target for that. Looks like more of a midrange terraforming colony set up than a scaling or hard tempo set up and Credicor is good at this. We have a decent city to control the center of the map and the best rebates, we have a scaling engine piece to play towards in AGT if we come across good science, we have access to plants and steel galore from trades as well as some heat and some scaling points with Enceledus. Not exciting, but perfectly reasonable and we do have a decent opening line that enables trades even if I'd prefer not to have to sp power twice (OCY could be used to empower first trade, but I don't like spending my ti this way). Atmo Collectors I think is a trap without Titan colony in the game and I generally just hate this card because it's garbage so I won't touch it for turning on trades without some very specific set ups that we don't have in this game. There is an argument to be made for Biofuels and Food factory as opening plays (have to sp one less power, but we lose ti prod and have to spend the cash on developing Food Factory, though we gain tempo on Ecologist milestone and lose it a bit on Generalist), but I don't think I like it as much. Great Dam is a potential speculative keep, but we are giving up polar most likely and hoping for GA from opponent to turn it on early to play Domed seems questionable even if it's a steel target that scores a point with Ceres in the game. I could go either way on it, don't really care.

never in a million years would I have thought to take this line.

I give up. I quit. I'll stick to game that make sense to me.

I think you just aren't playing enough TfM! You should play more!

Thank you. I’ll definitely sit down and sift through this

I know this is so corny, but you have to just play more games. If you want to get better there is no way around it.

Oh I’m definitely doing that. I’m usually running 4-8 games at once. Probably too much 😅

Good, gooooood, let the game flow through you. Try play 20, 30 games at once.

I wish I had the time for that, otherwise I totally would. But then all the games would blend together and there’d be no continuity in thinking.
