In case anyone misinterprets this, I like BGA, and I appreciate that a lot of hard work goes into running it. I'm a premium member, I consider it very good value for money, and I don't let the occasional glitch bother me. But this is IMO a pretty feeble attempt at generating interest/engagement.
Actually, just finishing is enough. Just finished a turn based game that started June 1st and got the trophy

I'm still not clear on what this "Game Fest" really is, or means, etc? Some said digital trophies. I got one already for "board game fest pioneer"

Also, they referenced "table top day".

I was shocked. Is that still a thing? Are people still following that?

Wil Wheaton started that with his Geek and Sundry show "Tabletop". He used to do live events, and promos would be given away etc. It was a whole thing. Then Felicia Day sold out and the new owners of the Channel treated her and Wil like garbage, and both left.

G&S had a huge following back in the day, not sure why anyone watches them now.

Your announcement says: "This initiative is about celebrating both the games and the people who play them." I won't ask for free premium like others, but there are plenty of other ideas of celebrating the gamers as you claim, other than a badge. I gave you one off the top of my head. :) I hope others contribute more.
I agree, a badge is a very small celebration. You tell us there is a festival and then it is just a badge, that is a bit of a let down. Having other things happen would be far better. Interviews are a great idea and interviews with the most popular games or awarding winning game makers. I'm sure there are other great ideas also in posts. Thanks for the badge but more of a celebration would be nice! Calling something a festival when it's a badge only is quite deflating.

Play that 3 mins game on here with the cards. Or a 10 min game. There are many short games. Pick one play it done. You can play on the way ro your convention.

A great way to celebrate gamers is to not ignore and dismiss their critical feedback on such "updates". So a great way to celebrate board game fest would be to admit you were wrong about the Lost Cities downgrade and change it back.
This is what you decided to post on your first foray into the forums?

Well then, maybe you don’t know that it was the publishers who changed the card designs and enforced that change on BGA. BGA isn’t “wrong”, as they didn’t have a choice. This isn’t on them.

I am grateful for the badge, as I said, don't misunderstand me. It's just, the wording of the announcement, "festival', celebrating players, an annual event, I really wish we got something more, even if it is the community organizing it, in the end we don't need BGA to hold our hand through everything, right? I greatly appreciate their work, and the game developers' work, and also Tof63's work, who has created a wonderful BGA extension and maintains it with regular updates and latches on feedback like it's a raft in "Survive the island" :) . Give him a try and more thanks! Extension here: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30509

I am continually impressed by the high value I get from BGA. Keep it going! Whether it is trying a new or familiar game, or reconnecting with a friend playing turn-based remotely, it is a tremendous source of good will and joy. I love the stats of how many and which titles I have discovered or fallen in love with. Something to consider doing to build excitement is a Board Game Arena wrapped-type event to build buzz and virality. Top games, top publishers, least known, most time played you get the idea.
You choose when so maybe on the bext anniversary of June5-7?
