Re: how to communicate in this game

I think the game is missing a discussion phase after each round. Irl we don't talk during the game but between rounds we debrief to understand what worked and what didn't. On BGA folks aren't doing that. I've been at tables with very aggressive players, others who didn't understand any conventions and everything in between and because there was NO communication in between rounds nothing improved. A "forced" debrief screen before the moving to next round screen would help this I feel. Half the fun of this game is the facial expressions, sighs, "give me that chip" etc... and the debrief where you get to understand your team mates and have a laugh at the confusion, without that I don't see the point.

I think what this game needs is a convention card.

In other games, you can start a game in 1p mode and make a deck.

Here, you should be able to start a game in 1p mode and make a convention card, which will be visible to all other players during the game.

One of the things you use to signal in this game is time. If you have AA, you grab the 6 right away without thinking. If you have 22 or AK, you wait a few seconds, and if nobody else grabbed the 6, then you take it. This game should have a generous clock compared to other games.

If someone else signals they've gotten stronger and I haven't, it seems natural to reconsider where I belong in the order.
MasN wrote: 30 May 2026, 17:38 The issue isn't that you hand can't get worse compared to other players. The issue is that if it has, they will tell you. Therefore, if the other players are indicating they have not improved, then your hand must still be good.
I totally agree. Of course your hand can change in comparison. However that requires others to go up. As I said, it cannot get worse all by itself as in without aanyone improving. If someone raises later, only than do I realy think there can be a reason for you to go down so as to "usher" them up further aand signal that you merely have high card. As a matter of course, your initial assessment might have been wrong which might justify an amendment; however how would you know because the facts on which you based your initial assessment will probably not have changed with regard to other players who haven't improved either.

Be that as it may, sorry to hear people communicating in such fashion as described by you. This is supposed to be a coop game and fun

The exception to the "your hand can't get worse on its own" rule is when you have two pair and the board pairs again. It's entirely possible that even if the other hands haven't improved that your hand's rank changed drastically.

Board: 334-5-5

Your hand: 22
Other hands: AK, AQ, AJ, 78

You went from the 5-chip on the turn (two pair vs everyone else's one pair) to the 1-chip on the river (two pair playing the board while everyone else has two pair and plays a kicker), despite nobody else improving. Just something to be aware of.

But there everyone else did improve. They all went from pair to two pair.

I guess that's technically correct (which is the best kind of correct), but in the context of this game you don't (or at least I don't) generally consider that kind of change "improving your hand". Normally the board pairing benefits everyone, so relative hand rankings don't change.

-----
Edit:

I thought it was a good idea to mention it in this thread since I've seen this come up when playing more than once. The board pairs, someone changes their relative ranking downwards, and folks speak up in the chat or move the chips back to the original ranking, claiming "you can't just make your own hand ranking lower; somebody else has to move up".

The point is that this statement:

"The issue isn't that you hand can't get worse compared to other players. The issue is that if it has, they will tell you."

isn't correct when your two pair get counterfeited. They don't know that your hand is now relatively worse; you have to tell them. Folks need to be aware of this possibility.

Pre-flop: any pair should try for the 6 chip immediately and any hand that has both cards 7 or below should go for the 1 chip immediately. If nobody takes the 6 chip right away then Ace or both cards are face cards should move up to 6 and single face cards should go to 5 & 4 chips. (obviously if more than one person gets a pocket pair and fight over the 6 then you have to adjust this ....as well as people fighting over the 1 chip)

Flop: If your hand got better you are going to increase the chip you chose. If you pair the board with the highest pair available (Q on board and you have a Q in hand) then go for the 6 chip to tell people you paired the highest possible pair (also in you get two pair which is rarer but still happens) If anyone who might have had pocket pair higher than Q (in this instance) will try and take the 6 chip back from you. If you got the baby board pair then you might only ant to increase 1 or two chip spots depending on how low the baby pair is. If you hit the two pair then you keep jockeying for the 6 but at some point someone will have to decide to settle on 5. Always be mindful of potential straights, flushes, or full house but never bet your hand on a potential straight or flush. !!! NEVER GO DOWN TO A LOWER CHIP UNLESS SOMEONE BELOW YOU GOES ABOVE YOU. !!!

Turn: rinse and repeat

River: rinse and repeat

Yeah it's present in my long guide there:
https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Tips_ ... ngle_pair)

You have the same thing with a single pair on the table where you can goes from a double pair to a 'single pair', and so move down, even if others only hit one new pair present on the table.
