Checkmate by castle

Post by Bubbahootep »

Not gloating here, I just thought this was really interesting, extremely lucky and will probably never happen again in my lifetime. Sharing the replay link if you're interested:

There have been a few of these recorded in history, but the ones I've seen have been when the king is driven to the opposing back rank and the mate is along a rank, not a file. Of course, there probably have been a bunch of such mates played online.

Paul Morphy vs Alonzo Morphy, 1850

cool.

You have to now aim for an en passant mate next,

I seem to remember a game where after chasing the kind down to the other end of the board, the winner had a checkmate by either a castle move or a king discovered rook mate, and they went with the simpler king move. :/
