Is the tutorial broken?

Post by boardgamelover19 »

Hello. I am trying to play the tutorial for this game, but I cannot seem to continue. I am on this part:

"Each player will have a choice of 2 cards to pick from for each type of card, so let's go for the Kunashir island, the Hot Summer Continental climate and the Siberian Taiga ecosystem.

Please select these 3 cards to choose in the hand order shown (tutorial is picky about this), and then press Continue."

I have selected the correct 3 cards in order, highlighted in blue, but nothing I do lets me continue. Hitting the "continue" button causes a pop-up that says I did not do the action in the tutorial. Hitting the space bar does nothing. Clicking the dialogue box does nothing. Refreshing does nothing. I tried highlighting the cards in red instead, and that didn't help either. Am I missing something, or is the tutorial broken?

The tutorial seems to be a little picky. It'll let you play through if you click on the cards in the order it specified. Or at least, it let me go through once i clicked on the cards in the order it wanted.

Yes, it is broken. It will not let me continue unless I compost Sunny Hillside, which on principle, I refuse to do.

I did see that and thought, wait what? Sunny hillside is amazing! Especially with Kunashir.

Oh well, tutorials are specifically not meant for teaching strategy.

Except, that lame tutorial does give strategy,
"Oops, now you do not have enough composted cards to use the ability of your blue card."
Also, why not use Sunny Hillside to actually demonstrate how black cards work ???

Tutorials should be written by people who know the game.

That would be nice, But I rarely see top rated players actually contribute a tutorial. So until those people step up, I'm happy to have and deeply appreciate 100s of tutorials written by folks like Nekonyancer.

Very true. I was only being half-serious; a bit of an inside joke about the Sunny Hillside card because it's one of the best cards in the game. :)

There is on game for which I wanted to make a tutorial - and in which I am a top 3 player - but I was told that BGA only allows one tutorial per game, and generally does not replace an existing tutorial if it is well-rated.

Maybe there's only one live tutorial on the game page, but there can be multiple tutorials. https://boardgamearena.com/tutoriallist ... n=allgames

I wonder if getting the competing tutorial to replace the live one is just a matter of it getting a higher average rating. I haven't looked closely for alpha tutorials that are higher rated than the live version.
