Revert Tinners' Trail to Beta

Post by tartanphoenix »

Tinners' Trail has multiple UI issues on multiple browsers that have been reported repeatedly for at least a couple of years with no response from the developer. It is by far the worst implementation I have ever played on BGA, including many beta games.

Is there a process to get this reverted back to beta?

Here are a selection of the bugs reported, all unresolved:

You might get better discussion by posting in the Tinners' Trail forum directly. Better yet, if you visit that forum you'll see a big red banner pointing you to a link where you can file an official suggestion for the developer to see, rather than starting a conversation with other players about it.

Instead, you've mistakenly posted a discussion in the site suggestion forum.

To answer your question more directly, the developer is no longer active. Games are developed and maintained by volunteers and there's also more demand than there are people willing to help. The developer was quite active 4 years ago in fixing bugs. It's extremely unlikely BGA will pull the game from its site for issues that have cropped up since then.

The good news? You can be the change you want to see in the world. Visit studio.boardgamegeek.com for information on how join the ranks of volunteers to maintain games.

My suggestion for the site is for there to be a way to flag a game as broken and needing put back into beta when the dev is clearly not around any more. Until someone with more time and skills than myself has the time to look at it and try to fix the issues.

Your suggestion that I post to the game forum and press a button to tag the developer is unhelpful given we both agree that the dev is no longer active and has not been for at least a couple of years.

Why would BGA not want to remove a game that is clearly causing a poor user experience to many users?

If this is your suggestion, then follow the directions in the pinned post that says "read this first."

OK Sorry, I misread that when I skimmed it the other day and just put in the existing bugs.

Here is a link to the suggestion I have raised.

I don't know the game, but I see the bottom white bar was displayed over the game area. I fixed that, but if it needs more fixes, the game needs to find a volunteer (you?) to fix it.

Unsure if this is rhetorical, but the answer is because more players would be upset if a gare is removed than are affected by individual bugs that, quite commonly, have always existed in the game but not prevented people from playing this whole time.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Volunteer to maintain it. I do that for a couple dozen games; you can, too.
