How does Bga decide to eliminate a player if one of the player is timed out and expelled?

Post by Ani_28 »

I am particularly talking about Ticket to Ride 4 player game in tournament where only 2 players advance, let’s say player D is timed out and expelled obviously making him not advance, now who advances from other 3 players, is it thinking time left? Or the higher number of points till then? Or elo?

In this one particular match I had both higher no of points till then and also most thinking time left yet was me eliminated from the three, only my elo was lower. Is that the case here?
But I also tried to see some other games for instance in can’t stop though if they were 3 players and 2 advance, but 2nd and 3rd had equal points it seems to advance player with lower elo though, is it different for every game? Any sources for the tiebreaker in any game possible?

For the specific case you describe of someone being skipped, BGA eliminates the remaining players with the most recently created accounts. This is obviously a bad deal for newer users. Fortunately, tournament creators can specify an option in their tournaments so that out of time players can not be skipped, so you might want to only join tournaments with that setting.

If the total allowed time for the game is reached, and no one has been skipped, BGA ranks people by the remaining time on their clocks. This is a little fairer, but you can still end up using the most time depending how every one's time zones get ordered. In the extreme case where the second player never makes a single move in the game, the first player will have used a little bit of time and will be ranked in second last place.

To avoid this, only join tournaments that have skipping disabled, or elimination tournaments that only eliminate 1 player per game.

Even if skipping is disabled, the game can end in a timeout, in which case players are ranked by time remaining on clock.

I had similar happen to me. I could attend the tournaments but there is no good way to know if your opponent at any given time will be on the other side of the planet from you. My time ran out because during my playing time there was website instability. By the time it was fixed, it was while I was asleep and the opponent was awake. I was going to win the match (Sea Salt and Paper) but since my time ran out. My opponent decide to kick me out. I"m wondering how to appeal this if possible for both re-entry to tournament and getting my karma points back.

I think those of us who are aware of it should make a habit of linking to this thread in response to posts like this:

Unfortunately tournaments have fixed dates so you can't go back on an elimination. Same thing as in the real word, if you qualify for the next world cup stage, they can't say that there was a refereeing mistake and therefore your spot is now invalid (well they are trying to do that with the winner of the Africa Cup final, but that doesn't seem very right to me).

I've worried about that particular thing too, since I have a tendency to run down on time and only have a couple hours left, so my opponent may exploit the site's instabilities to kick me at the right moment. It's never happened but you never know what people may do.

Okay but it should be allowed to regain karma when you aren't really at fault. I mean is there a way to tell (if it isn't explicitly stated) whether the majority of the games participants are going to be on the other side of the world? Or when you don't know that the site is back up from being down and hence time has elapsed..

It is allowed of course but how would it be executed? There are thousands of tournament games running at once. There is already a system that removes penalties during server outages but BGA cannot know If you are asleep in the one hour after the outage when you could make your move. How would that work at all?

You can try to join tournaments with playing hours where the clock does not count down during your sleeping hours. Problem solved.
