4 hour limit issue on long real time games in TI4.

Post by TomKy »

For you planning or playing TI4 real time.

https://boardgamearena.com/faq?anchor=f ... cleangames

In this section in the sites F.A.Q:
How long does a game table stay open if nobody is playing anymore?

When nobody has made a move at a game table for a while, it is closed automatically to free up server resources:
  • A real-time table is closed automatically if more than 4 hours have elapsed since its creation and if all players at this table are now offline.
A turn-based table is closed automatically if no move has been made in 40 days.
If someone plays a game and decides to continue the next day, the site checks if all players are online or not. If all are offline, game might by aborted the next day. Just so you all are aware at that.

So if you play TI4 in realtime, you may encounter this issue when you are playing over 4 hours long TI4 game, which is likely to happen and a big red bar notice ingame which noone can miss.

No time limit - recommended with friends only" game ends after no activity overnight
No time limit" games should not be subject to 4h timeout of Realtime games

Both reports is mentioned in the game when you play TI4. Post there to raise attention to this feature problem.

Feel free to report it as a bug if you experiences it closes prematurely and feel free to post it in this discussion. Since many games isn't specified with a no time limit, report it here if your game abruply stops in mid game or post in the threads above.

For times the BGA servers are down, all players may be registered as offline, you should report if you experience the game shuts down because of it.

Feel free to post any interruptions you experience about this limitation to long live games.

Your safest bet if you have to pause overnight (or longer) is the "Switch game to turn-based" option.

This is definitely the best option. As the developer, my fear was that players might not realize the 4-hour idle timer exists, and just stop playing overnight. It would be very sad to lose your game in that situation, which is why you need to switch to turn-based mode before pausing.
