Is bluff discard a thing?

Post by Magistone »

I’m sorry if this situation is already answered in the forum.

Sometimes happen that we are in a situation where the player (Alice) has a known playable, non-critical card, with the other copy into the deck.
The very next player has a useful and actually playable card on fp, and also a useful card (or a critical) on chop position. We know that if Bob have a critical on chop, Alice should have at least 1 clue available to save Bob’s chop. If she have not, she can perform a scream discard.
Let’s make she want to discard the known playable to have the Bob’s fp played as a fake-GD.
Pro: 1) get 1 hint 2) save a critical chop 3) have a useful card played 4) discard a non critical instead of a possible critical.
Against: 1) Lose a useful card and make it critical

The hint gained from the fake-GD can be used by Cathy to eventually save the chop of Dexter.

Is this convention existing and have a name? Can I use it?
Thank you all

Hello,
When people become better at the game those kind of situations happen less because everyone is more effecient.

Gentleman's discard should make the player continue to look for their card. Per example:
A: x-(r1)-x-x
B: y1-?-?-?
Here, when A discard their globally known r1, B will answer by playing y1 expecting r1.
Now what should happen? A discarded a known card for a not known one, instead of just clueing y1. That's bad, so something else should happen.

And here B should still look for r1 and play their second finesse position:
B: y1-y2-r1-x

Gentleman's discard shouldn't be done all the time, if you can delay your GD for few cost (definitvely not discard), and give one extra turn to the player who got the target of the GD, and if they discard (a non useful card, else you should usually GD), then now if they draw any playable, you can GD it to get 1 extra play instead of 0.

.

So here in your convention, B should still look for the card promessed in their slot 2.
And losing a known card will just make the leftover of the game harder, which isn't great.
What is done usually is:
- if you have a play: discard your chop, that's a scream discard and next player should either save next player's critical chop, or save their chop.
- if you don't have a play: discard your chop, and hope that this player will not discard. They should usually only do it if nearly every player got a critical or excellent card in chop.
(- with great player if you are certain someone will mess up something discard your second chop, but that's reaaaaally not advised, but that show to you that we put priority to discard unknown card instead of globally known one)

Thank you so much for your answer.
Basically, gd discard only start a finesse or a layered finesse.
I understand it and will comply with it.
