Well if you nerf deer scoring, then everything including bats are more even with strategy, that said only doing one strategy isn’t great, working on 2 strategies is better. Make it so deer score 2 points for each certain icon. And as for wolves bring it down to 3 points for each deer. And then just make It so each gnat gives you two points for each bat.

Or you could just play dartmoor.

Here is a idea for subduing the wolf/deer combo.

You are allowed 1 wolf and the deer in your forest are safe.

Add a 2nd wolf, and they eat 1 deer (taken out of your forest).

Add a 3rd wolf and they eat 2 more deer (2 more taken out of the forest, 3 total).

One idea I have been tinkering with is to make Fallow Deer bonus into a punishment. Basically, if you paid with 2x the correct color, you draw 1 card. If you don't, you have to discard one card. Still doesn't fix the problem of plopping them for free with the other deer, but it is a decent way to nerf the S-tier 'score points while drawing cards at the same time' strategy.
