I do not mind the extra time/turns, after all I'm here to play the game not skip as much as possible due to automation ideas. It's a really nice tension build up and some good inner turmoil of phycological mind-games.

However the start at fixed 10VP might not really be needed, if it is a determent to start much lower impacting your ability to buy ships / recharges, then you need to take that into account during the auction, much the same as other factors.
Actually no you can’t take just take into account extra VPs in auction because of the snowball potential an extra ship has in the first round so a 1 point difference in auction can translate in much more different as a result.
The game has been balanced around 10 points as a resource to enter the ships and for example baltaks are balanced around having to spend 2 extra VPs than other factions to do it, if they start with 6 extra point they are effectively losing their nerf.
Also your capability of accepting power after entering a ship changes if you start with more VPs and just a couple extra rotations in round 1 have very high snowball potential as well.
Exactly. Plus, in a 2-player game, the player who starts with more points would have an advantage, because they could unlock the extra 7th advanced technology (which requires 25+ points) more quickly.

Quick update: We put in a request with BGA a couple weeks ago to open alpha testing. We're still waiting to hear back. Everything is fully implemented, but undertested. I expect there are lots of bugs hiding under the surface, but also a lot of fun gameplay.

BGA has approved the expansion for alpha testing. I'm currently buried in preliminary reports, mostly very basic, big stuff like not being able to start a game under some conditions. Once I have those knocked out, I'll start a new thread for alpha just like I talked about in May's update.

@ZeroCool, wrong thread. Please go back and read the May update to understand both the timeline and expectations. It also has a link on how you can make yourself a tester.

Hi Kayvon,
I would like to thank you for your effort in developing the expension! I notice that there are A LOT of duplicate bug reports and you seem to get tired of them (did you notice the tech tracks cannot be used? ;) ). I understand that you get upset when this is reported 26 times already, and people keep reporting it. However, I think everyone has good intentions doing this, and that the bug-reporting method is not providing enough information to prevent people doing it (that might be something BGA might consider upgrading). I hope you are not feeling disencouraged by these duplicate reports, and I think they will stop appearing when you've fixed the biggest ones.

One question (just for my information) i have for you is that i notice that you need a move-number when checking the bugs. I would like to know why you need that, if the bug-report is created once the bug is noticed? I always thought that the system creates a kind of 'snapshot' of the game at that moment?

That supposes that the players are reporting bugs as of the turn the bug is active, which is great when it happens but not always the case.

We are working through the bugs nearly as quickly as you are finding them, so thank you for your reports!

If you want to say, "current move number," that works fine. You'd be surprised how many people wait until the game is over before reporting an incident, or report it on behalf of another player for some reason, or attempt to bunch up several reports at once. The end-of-game reports are particularly popular with realtime and solo games because you don't have the same downtime.

:P

It kind of comes down to what you hinted at: There are a TON of reports to investigate and it can sometimes take quite a while to find where in the game someone was decribing, especially if what they ended up describing didn't happen or wasn't a bug, which also happens quite a bit, especially in our more established titles.

While I'm on the topic, I know a lot of people are waiting for that alpha invite thread I mentioned. At the moment, we're flooded with as many reports as we can handle. Someone asked earlier today whether we were busy and I counted 26 bug-related emails in the two hours leading to the question. It's a lot to handle. Once things settle down, which they will, I'll make that thread. I'm guessing in a couple weeks, but no promises.
