F5 for updated game state/"Move recorded, waiting for update" bug

Post by Julius Czer »

Has anyone who's confronted a persistent "Move recorded, waiting for update" problem (ie having to refresh to get an updated game state) resolved this issue with a fix? Whether it be a network issue or BGA bug, there are a lot of reported cases and upvotes in the Bugs & Suggestions forum, but these are marked as "resolved" with no information on if & how this was actually resolved for users. I have not been able to recieve an updated game state without F5ing in over a year and therefore do not use the site--only occasionally to see if this problem has resolved.

Problem details: Having to refresh to see an updated board state after my move & opponents'. From the game chat, I appear to disconnect and reconnect to game server. This happens across all BGA games (I only play real-time), all browsers, & both accounts that are used in my household. This problem has persisted for over a year. The household internet functions normally & quickly for all other uses (eg online PC & Xbox gaming, video streaming, browsing, etc).

Has anyone with this problem found a solution?

Refreshing my browser window (aka F5) typically fixes it for me. When it doesn't, it is a sign that the BGA servers are on fire so I come back later.

Hang on, are you saying any time you make a move this happens? That’s wild. I’d look at your browser and what extensions you have installed.

Thanks for the reply. Yes! *Every* time I make a move, I have to referesh for the board to update (for me. others players see that I have gone). I click "confirm" and get the "Move recorded, waiting for update..." message until I refresh.

Not only that, but I don't see other players' moves until I refresh. So playing a game involves constantly refreshing to see if someone made a move. Otherwise, I would never know.

Also, if I'm in a lobby waiting for a game, and it begins, I will not be notified. I have to refresh and then click on the green table button in the top right to get to the "ready-up" screen.

This is for all devices, all browsers, and both household accounts. I don't have any browser extensions. I used to be able to use the site normally and then one day over a year ago, things changed permanently.

I've had this intermittently - I'm pretty sure it's been acknowledged as a website-wide bug (or at least affecting more than just me) when I've had it, and it's been fixed in 24 hours or less. For that reason, I don't have any suggestions for solutions, but I know that'd be super annoying.

It looks like you have trouble connecting to the notification service. Please go to https://boardgamearena.com/troubleshoot to the end (step 3) and file a support ticket by going to the support page. But first, please try the following and check what resolves your issue:
* try from a different device (PC, phone)
* try with different network settings: wifi, network cable or 4G/5G
* try with your VPN on or off if any
* disable firewall/anti-virus if any
