If instead E sees a way for 3g to play and does something unrelated (e.g. discard), someone must find 3g.

Here E passes to B and B assumes he will play the other copy of 3g. Plays 1r instead, but that doesn't stop the hunt for 3g, because E created the gap, proving 3g exists. C is fully aligned with A from the start and will not mess up the clue. Clue is 100% safe even tho B's pov is his own cards should be 1g 3g x x.
2) bad patch finesse
B: 1g x x x
C: 1r x x x
D: 2g 2r 3g x
E: x 4g x x
Here both E and B would pass to C and C assumes she will play the other copy of 3g. Plays 1r instead... but if C on her first round does not realize it can be a patch, she can mess up the clue for example by clueing 1r on A or red to D for A to play 1r from slot 1, so A should not attempt this clue under normal circumstances* and instead go for simpler 3 to D.
* it's okay to give this clue when A knows C will not mess it up.
a) A uses the last clue and C will be forced to discard
b) both A and C see the other copy of 3g (e.g. E: x 4g x 3g), so C is fully aligned from the start
c) C is forced to respond to another clue, e.g. in the middle of layered or E just clued finesse for C to play first
d) the clue count is low enough (usually 1) for C to feel obliged to discard and generate another clue even if she could have given A-D red finesse; bga conv system doesn't, but there are convnetion systems in which going to zero clues changes how players will act on future turns, look up referential sieve and reactor conv systems; even tho in bga conv going to zero clues usually doesn't change anything (meaning of clues or how players will act on their next turn), it's often not a good idea to do so for simple 2-plays finesses and even more so for direct play clues
3) simple layered finesse

D: 2g 1r 3g x
E: x 4g x x
