I have played this game like from 2023 , at that i time getting elo was fun cause u could play with ur friends and play many games with them and it was fair and square, but then they decided to implement a lazy system to avoid farming, i mean if the problem is farming, ban the accs doing that do not punish the winning guys to start getting zero elo from their opponents, there are games were as a top ranked player have to risk to lose like 23 to 30 points and i can only get 4 to 6 points which is already hard, but with this system there are times i get 0 points, i mean i have to start avoiding games with people i have already played and won 6 times in a row, and to be honest in this game there are not that many players . This system makes impossible to someone reach higher elos. There should be a fix, this system is not working
The elo system is wrong

Re: The elo system is wrong
To be honest, I think if you're playing for elo then you're doing it wrong. The system is mostly working as intended if you lose a lot of elo losing to low-rated opponents and gain little for beating them. There shouldn't be an incentive for repeatedly destroying beginners and occasional players. You can set a minimum elo level when creating a table, that might solve part of your problem.
You could also try Arena play if ranking matters to you. I don't think the consecutive penalty applies there, could be wrong.
I personally wouldn't want to see the removal of penalties against collusion. In fact collusion is a growing problem that needs more discouragement, not less.

Re: The elo system is wrong
The penalties apply always .-., i am not telling about only begginers , there are guys with 240 or 300 where i get zero .-. , do you see how crazy it is ?, Chess is another sport where u get elo from beating players and u do not see such an unfair system where it forces u to avoid the player who u are already have won a lot. I mean if the issue is collusion there should be the option to report such things an punish them, and not because of that do an unfair system, i mean this game is already hard with the luck factor. And also do u think this system stops anyone ?, people who do this in arena are only creating more accs and thats it.
As a side note : It is crazy but really crazy that u have to start avoiding to play with people just because u will not get poinst and u risk a lot, I mean lets be honest, start remembering who u could play or not, is really annoying .

Re: The elo system is wrong
They're telling us collusion was a problem, we have to take their word on that. They're telling us the new system discourages it, we have to take their word on that as well. Do I think it does enough or works in every case? No, but it's likely better than nothing.
BGA most likely doesn't have a large team behind the scenes that can investigate collusion cases one-by-one, game-by-game. It's run on a low budget and depends on volunteers. This is going to result in generic solutions that don't work in all cases.
I play as wide a selection of KoT games as I can. 2 through 6 player, any combo of expansions, and Arena too. I think I very rarely come across the consecutive win problem this way. Not that I'm looking out for it because I don't care - I play to win, not to farm elo. Perhaps I'm not winning enough, but I think the fact that I maximise the player pool I encounter, and don't stick to one format, means the consecutive win problem becomes mostly irrelevant.

Re: The elo system is wrong
I mean i think there are better ways to avoid collusion for example that there should not be 1 vs 1 rated, cause it is the easiest to farm elo, and the report system should be there, i mean it is not like they should ban them inmediately they could take their time to ban them or another solution could be that if u get 6 wins in a row , if u play again against this player after some time u can get elo , i mean that would also avoid collusion and make the system a bit more fair. My problem with the actual system is that makes almost impossible for someone to reach the higuer elos. I know this problem only is a problem for the most competitive guys, but i think the actual system makes the game less competitive because the top guys after they reach certain point they just drop the game cause there is not something else to reach. I mean i remember 3 years ago when i reached top 1 and this sytem was not there, there were many more top player than right now .
Re: The elo system is wrong
Guess what, that's already the case.ISEECOMPENSATION wrote: ↑04 July 2026, 16:27 another solution could be that if u get 6 wins in a row , if u play again against this player after some time u can get elo
At least it is in other games, after some time (could be 7 days, could be more) the "consecutive wins" counter is reset.
Re: The elo system is wrong
Standard stuff that keeps elo down.
More than 2 player games: Between intentional team-ups, or even just accidental support from the byproduct of player politics, games with a decent amount of interaction have their technical skill's relevance greatly hampered. More often than not, they lack the competitive capacity 2 player brings. To really climb up there you'd probably have to aim for weak players and hope they aren't interacting properly for an easy political cakewalk. If a player wants to aim for weaker competition, the solution tends to be to target the places where the weaker players roam, such as alternative variants where luck is increased, such as Wingspan with the banned cards included, or higher player counts where players less confident in being able to win 1 v 1 can hope for their opponents to take each other out.
High luck: Games like Can't Stop, despite their high player count, generally stay in the 400s, barely breaking 500s, even for their top players.
You'll see games like Ticket to Ride, Splendor, Azul, easily maintain many 700s. Luckless 2 player abstracts can do astonishingly well even with low player counts making it hard to properly fill in their ratings, and they'll still produce well beyond 700s.

Re: The elo system is wrong
To be honest what is keeping elos down is the actual system which punish people´s skills, I mean i can guarantee without this actual system we could have easily 600 elo players in the game. I read in the last comment that there is a reset, i think that is not true i remembered i played against a friend after one month or so and got zero. I know this is not such a big issue for many people but I think is kinda sad many top players drop the game cause there is a wall .
Re: The elo system is wrong
100 points? Just how often are you farming large gaps? The system has issues but that's quite an estimation. What sort of ratings existed before this update?ISEECOMPENSATION wrote: ↑04 July 2026, 19:12 To be honest what is keeping elos down is the actual system which punish people´s skills, I mean i can guarantee without this actual system we could have easily 600 elo players in the game. BananaHarambe wrote: ↑13 February 2025, 21:13 I've discovered that the number of days to reset the consecutive win penalty is variable for each game. Most games seem to have a 30 day "lookback" period, but some games seem to only have 7 day lookback. For example, Five Tribes has 30 days and The Vale of Eternity has only 7 days based on personal research.
7 days isn't too bad in my opinion for most games and players have a workaround by red thumbing players and writing a note on their profile with a date to unblock if they REALLY want to stop playing against the same player over and over who happens to queue up whenever you do. There shouldn't be too many blocks to manage with 7 day lookback unless you are playing an insane number of games.
30 days is a bit much considering how small the community in most games are. There are only so many players doing real time at certain hours.
Rather than encouraging players to block others when the consecutive win penalty gets too high (100% of whatever your personal cutoff is) might be better to just block the matchmaking entirely until the consecutive win penalty resets to a more reasonable level.
Think about it, if you won or lost against someone 6 times in a row you would want a break from playing against that person. I'm sure both players would want a break.

If there is a reset of the penalty i think it is kinda good. Do u know how much time is in this game ?, so i can test it
