Player rankings , what is needed for each level ? Apprentice , Average, Good Expert etc.

Post by AussiePuzzleEnjoyer »

Does anyone know the currently implemented thresholds for someone to change ranking ?

Ive seen Apprentice, Average, Good, Expert (and probably some more).

Im currently Average and wonder whats needed to get up to the next level, and if its possible to be demoted levels. Thanks

Maybe if a few people posted their current data points, it'd help. Ive seen a few players profiles and some had around 800 games, with 400 wins etc.

Currently Im at 235 (+1 friendly game) Games
with 157 Victories
and Average.

This is just a guess
1-100 apprentice
101-200 average
201-300 good
301-500 strong
501-700 expert
701+ master

This follows other ranges on bga. 1-100 you dont lose elo when lose on bga. Maybe that's the case here too.
It is possible after 100 it is a +1 or -1 for each game won vs loss.
Example won first 100 games straight to get to 100; then won 150, lost 45. That would put you 100 + 105 = 205 = good

This game has messed up elo. I think you only get a few points for a win, so it takes forever to get to 100.

Something like that makes sense,

I thought it might have been an if statement
if (games > x) and (win ration > y ) then rank.
Or maybe it uses figures across whole playerbase.

Ive played some more games and had a look at some profiles.

~1000 games / 800 victories was Expert
~850 games / 550 victories was Strong
~400 games / 310 victories was Strong

I might come back and edit this in case anyone else has the same question as this game doesnt use a pure ELO system

Its same as in any other BGA game

100 ELO for Average
200 ELO for Good
300 ELO for Strong
500 ELO for Expert
700 ELO for Master

Problem is you don't see your current ELO points in cooperative games (its something I'm fighting against), nor one you get or lose for games, so you don't know how far you are from next level.

I'm trying to get that info link, but surprisingly game developer doesn't know that , and contact with BGA staff takes long and it's not very effective.

From what I observed games with more players and on higher levels gives you more points, so if you are good enough you can advance faster. But also you lose points for losing a game so if you aren't good enough you might not reach higher levels. At least that how it is since May. There was a change then. Before system was different.

Thank you all for the responses.

I played a heap early on and recently had been playing, trying to get into 'good' .

Id been wondering if a high number of losses early on would affect my win% and if it'd feed into rankings. I can see my rating over time , but it has a squiggle and then flatlined recently when i would have expected some change.

My guess here is that you get 1 point for every win and lose nothing for a loss. And once you reach the aforementioned threshold, you rank up.

NO. Once again, that how it was since change in May. Now you lose ELO points for lost and gain different amounts for different wins, from My observation of few games. I even got +8 points for single win. You don't have to guess that or believe me. If you are premium member you can check any player's ELO curve (in stats), for example mine, to see ups and downs of ELO.

Until you make 100 elo, you won't lose elo for a loss. It takes forever to get to 100 on this game. For most games, 5 wins gets you to 100 elo easily.
