Allow people to concede 2-player single-elimination games in tournaments

Post by justbegladnow »

There is literally no reason for the restriction of not being able to concede a single-elimination 2-player game. It slows down tournaments and it is awful to endure.

One might argue that banning conceding in swiss/groups/etc. makes sense as the game might use margin of victory as a tiebreak (which is awful and should not be the case anyway, use chess tiebreaks, they even are depreciating margin of victory in this summer's World Cup because there is growing understanding that it is bad and game-distorting) but in the single-elimination it literally changes nothing whether people forfeit, time out, or grind the game to its inevitable conclusion.

Seems like a change that could be implemented with a single line of code (removing the block if the game is 2-player and single-elimination).

Literally no reason? Or no reason that you personally are aware of?

I assure you it's the latter. Have a look at the many other threads regarding conceding and you'll see that it can, and has, been exploited in the past (even in tournaments, but not exclusively so). There's a reason the system requires 50% of game completion.
