Hi, this is the thirt time I get karma points for not finishing a game, while I was playing catan a player had constant time out and was removed from the game, you get a messege you can quit the game withouth loosing points, still now I login I see the messege I didn't finish the game and got karma points, why is this happening, this is pretty unfair and if its a glitch please fix this because I never quit a game before the end but don't see the use of finishing a game with no players

Re: Karma points given while I didn't left the game
This is a weird one. So you went over your time and got kicked during move 208, which looks right by the clock. However I have never seen it happen where someone is kicked and then able to continue playing the game. I see you quit the game in turn 306 but its strange that it allowd you to keep going
Re: Karma points given while I didn't left the game
I've noticed this recently too. I mostly play Wingspan and there were a couple of games I left (took karma hit) and when I went to search for more games, it put me back into the game I left. I couldn't join any more games until that game was finished. I could return to that game, but I still had the karma hit for leaving the first time.
I think maybe BGA is implementing a system to where those who leave games (quit, not concede) can't join new games until the one that was left was completed, either by the other player deciding to leave themselves or until they go through the game until the literal end.
It kinda sucks, but I'm sure there will be defenders who think this is great.

Re: Karma points given while I didn't left the game
A year and a half ago I had my one and only forfeit. My internet went out, and I had not yet set up BGA on my cell phone. My opponent chose to keep playing, and I returned in under 3 minutes - almost soon enough to avoid being expelled but not quite. I was able to see my opponent making moves. I had been way ahead when I was expelled.
I also say a button that said "Click here to get back into the game". I thought, "Oh, cool, maybe you get a mulligan your first time."
I did rejoin, but it was rather odd. The game did not function as normal, and I was not able to make moves as normal. I forget exactly how it went. Finally something occurred that allowed me to actually make moves, and I ended up with a higher score, only to learn that once expelled, none of that matters.
All in all, a weird experience. Now I always have my cell logged in to BGA when I play real-time.
In that one instance, it was voluntary for me to click the "rejoin" button, so I do consider it weird that the BGA site might sometimes put people back into a forfeited game automatically. Maybe it depends on which page/menu the person uses to join games. I always do manual, but maybe if "automatic" is chosen, this can happen?

I'd like to know why you think it "kinda sucks".Archisian wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 00:33 I think maybe BGA is implementing a system to where those who leave games (quit, not concede) can't join new games until the one that was left was completed, either by the other player deciding to leave themselves or until they go through the game until the literal end.

I think something like this could be a good thing, in that it would provide extra incentive for people not to quit. "You can't just quit when things aren't going your way and jumip into another game!" Offhand, though, I don't think it should apply to people who get expelled; leaving is voluntary and getting expelled isn't. They shouldn't be treated the same.
But this is just my "hot take" on this idea; I'm open to counter-arguments.
Re: Karma points given while I didn't left the game
You already know why I think it sucks. I don't want to waste my time continuing to play a losing effort. No, I do not care about achieving a personal best when it means absolutely nothing in the end. It's still an L and I'll still get the same drop in ELO.BarnardsStar wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 03:26I'd like to know why you think it "kinda sucks".Archisian wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 00:33 I think maybe BGA is implementing a system to where those who leave games (quit, not concede) can't join new games until the one that was left was completed, either by the other player deciding to leave themselves or until they go through the game until the literal end.

Cool, I'm a bad person because I care about my time in this instance when I get exactly 0 benefit going all the way through knowing I'll lose, making me appear selfish. But I'm used to it at this point, so it doesn't affect me to be called that anymore.

Your peevishness suggests otherwise.Archisian wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 05:10 You already know why I think it sucks. I don't want to waste my time continuing to play a losing effort. And I was not angling for this at all; it was a genuine question. And I consider it answered at this point, so you can cancel the red alert and lower your shields.

Mmkay, thank you for not lashing out about it. I just normally expect it from people when I give my opinions.BarnardsStar wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 06:14Your peevishness suggests otherwise.Archisian wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 05:10 You already know why I think it sucks. Re: Karma points given while I didn't left the game
I'm all for giving incentive for people not to quit (as you know), but putting people in a situation where they are stuck and can't play any other game until the other player decides to finish doesn't seem like the right way to do it...BarnardsStar wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 03:26I'd like to know why you think it "kinda sucks".Archisian wrote: ↑14 July 2026, 00:33 I think maybe BGA is implementing a system to where those who leave games (quit, not concede) can't join new games until the one that was left was completed, either by the other player deciding to leave themselves or until they go through the game until the literal end.

It's like you are fighting the problem by adding yet another problem, instead of combating the problem at the root.
