Bad Goal - Mulligan?

Post by RedWolfe75 »

I've been thinking about this for awhile, and I may house rule this in my own games.

I've found that when secret goals are dealt out, that if you get two of the basic (4) point goals with 2 symbols on the Assets area, that give you no extra benefit, that you're at a clear disadvantage. You've been stuck having to only get 4 pts, and you'll never get any extra benefit from that goal. Generally I lose these type of matches because before the game has even started, my opponent has a clear advantage (unless they too got two (4) point goals with only 2 Assets).

I feel that if this situation does come up, the player should be given an option of discarding those two cards and drawing two more goals.

Curious what other players think of this?

I see your point but I don’t think the 4 point 2 assets secret goal is that bad. It’s not my favorite but I don’t think it’s a huge hindrance. If there are several public asset goals, the secret goal can help you achieve these, and you can also force a short game. I won in two rounds before because I claimed 6 asset related goals, 4 of which were 4 point/2 assets, including my secret goal.

If anything, I think the worst goal is the 18 point assets. By the time you can claim it, the game is basically over and the harmony prize isn’t worth it. As a house rule I’d definitely remove this card from the game.

I also think the 9 point assets/harmony as a secret goal is way too overpowered. I rarely see people lose when they get this as their secret goal (maybe once or twice in the thousands of games I’ve played…). It’s okay as a public goal but not private.
