From 2 August 2026, the European Commission's AI Office, together with national authorities, will begin enforcing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act. On the same date, new transparency rules will start to apply, requiring certain AI systems to tell users when they are interacting with AI and when content has been generated or altered by it.

Do the above affect BGA's current operations or future plans?

I just noticed that Fall of Lumen has AI generated art, and the publisher's video uses an AI voice and is badly organized and edited (important things missing, sentences repeated, left me lost enough that I still needed to go back and read the rules - and I've played 1,338 titles on here so I'm someone who can understand games well enough...) The rulebook itself is out of order relative to gameplay needs, but that sort of thing predates LLM and image gen AI. Wouldn't surprise me if AI was used in the rulebook as some of the phrasing is clunky, unless it was simply a translation into English. And formatting is a bit weird in places.

I suspect we will sadly see more of this.

There have been an increase in BGA website bugs over the past 6 or so months, so who knows?

I hope no one misunderstood me; I think AI has a place here on BGA, for example in teaching the basics of a game, or even replacing players in friendly mode...

Heck no. We have fine tutorials already and there are videos for most games on the web. There is no need to involve systems that are predicated on stealing others' work (to train them), harm the environment and the communities they are located in, in various ways, and raise power costs for others on the same power grid due to supply and demand. I just love having my power bill be MULTIPLES of what it was before LLMs and such due to the added demand.

The Lumen AI video was horrible and a waste of my time. I still needed to read the rulebook afterwards.
I've also had to log a rules bug (after triple checking the rules for user error, so I'm pretty sure) right on the first turn. Perhaps AI did some of the coding too and they didn't test it. I'm so sick of people outsourcing intelligence to LLMs and putting out slop.

Plus LLMs are non-deterministic by design. Meaning they do not give the same result for the same inputs consistently. They hallucinate things. They omit things. This is no good for rules and many other things. They cannot be trusted.

Not all "AI" is out to steal stuff. It's like any other tool for use by a human. You don't ban hammers because one guy uses one to murder his neighbor.

Are humans deterministic?

Human's generally use intelligence, to varying degrees, but there is always thought in there. Art created by humans will make some sense, for example, unless it is, say, intentionally absurdist.
