ELO/Ranking system

Post by tarongot »

Will there be ranking system in this game, so we have at least a clue what level our teammates represents before we play with them?
Do we, players want that?

I do how about YOU?

Current point gaining is not a ranking and never will be. Its just meaningless points gaining for almost worthless (few XP points) badges. And very long to add, so already people started "cheating" it by playing only 2 people tutorial games, to get to "master" rank as fast as they can, for that few XP gain.

I noticed that, too. What a boring way for someone to play this game (always the Tutorial on Easy mode and nothing else). The poor person must not have much of a life.

I think the rankings will be enabled when the game is officially released (and is no longer in beta).

Why would you think that? Cooperative games have no ranking at all, even when fully released, with few exceptions, so unless we will influence BGA and others, Zombicide won't have ranking either.
What we have now it what will still have when released. Unless something changes, and in this matter nothing will change on its own.

Maybe you are referring to message that "arena and tournaments are enabled when you reach 100 ELO", but that is just automated message for all games, and its never true in case of cooperative games.

There is a "Mission overview" button in the upper left corner you can view (during an in progress game) that appears to keep track of which missions you've successfully completed. Perhaps they could make this available to others (looks like you can only view your own right now)?

I mean, yeah the ELO w/b be better/easier but at least this w/b something, and you would know if someone only ran the M0 mission over and over (*Mine currently shows M0, M1, M3, M10, & M15 completed. All solo except for M0 mainly due to poor/suicidal players.).

The rank is necessary.

There are a lot of players who play thhhis after more than 10 years. Players whho know somethiings about tactics and how to play

simple things such share weapons and equipment to players whho ned it (really? a sniper for Wanda??? Elle with Katana and chainsaw???, or players who open doors when they are the last player of the round, or snipèrs who dont choose runners... etc etc

Rank is necessary because , when you reach a hiigh level, you dont want to feel like a techer in a kindergarden, and if you die, I lost the game

Simple

Perhaps a ranking based on player body count would be more appropriate for this game. Who is killing the most zombies with their actors in their plays of the game?

That would definitely weed out the Tutorial Farmers (nobody is killing many zombies in the tutorial compared to the more involved scenarios).

Unfortunately I'm not sure that works either. Players shouldn't earn less ELO for choosing Ostara or Ned instead of Tiger Sam (for example). If Ostara is searching, finding molotovs or food, sharing weapons with the other survivors, she should get the same ELO as everyone else on the team.

I play Regicide. IDK if they changed the way that game's ELO is calculated, but you basically earn points based on different difficulty settings.

You get a small, base number of points for winning the tutorial and easy map (e.g., 5 points). Medium difficulty maps could be 7 points, Hard could be 10. Then the other settings - Abomination Frenzy(?) could be another 3 points; Dark zones could be another 3 points. Something like that.

Also, I'm concerned about if/when the ELO system changes and you start losing ELO for losing games. I've seen players intentionally kill themselves instead of quitting the game when it gets slightly difficult. If they change the ELO system to include negative points for losing a game, I think it will be worse for the community.

I think you underestimate Ostara :D

I specialize in playing Ostara (unless she is unavailable).

Her best role is searching constantly (but safely ... don't search on last Action unless you have a partner with a melee weapon in same square following you to deal with the AHHH!) to find weapons and equipment to distribute to her Actor partner and other player Actors. In particular, Ostara needs a flashlight (only 2 in the deck) ... so don't be surprised when she "borrows indefinitely" your Actor's flashlight (and in fact, a smart player would deliver their acquired flashlight to Ostara) ... so that she can become a molotov factory for the team.

My experience playing Ostara is that she gets very high bodycount when the stuff hits the fan ... as she often pulls off a last second molotov creation just in time to throw it and wipe out a square flooded with a massive amount of zombies.

While it sometimes takes her awhile to go blue to yellow ... End game often sees her Orange and sometimes Red. 8-)
