deleted accounts should be kicked out of tournaments

Post by buldozer »

Deleted accounts block spaces and cannot be kicked out by organiser.
Could admins please help?

Not only that. It would be great, if players who haven't logged in for weeks could be removed as well.

Yup. At the very least - if someone hasn't logged in for double the length of a tournament game, they're removed from that tournament.

Ie:
* 3 day games - removed from tournament after not logging in for 6 days/missing 2 games.
* 7 day games - removed from tournament after not logging in for 14 days/missing 2 games.
* 30 day games - removed from tournament after not logging in for 60 days/missing 2 games.

+1 to this — Could an admin step in and clear the deleted accounts (or give organisers the ability to kick them)? Would really appreciate it, thanks!

I don't agree with the second suggestion.

If an account is deleted, it makes sense that they'd be removed from the tournament, since they are never going to come back anyway.

Now, if I have a game set up against someone who has been inactive for a long time, I don't want that game to be cancelled and just get a free win and automatically advance. I want the game to remain open so that hopefully the player comes back and we can finish the game before the maximum game duration is reached.

If the player account is deleted, the player can't come back !

I meant the suggestion to remove players who have been inactive for some time.

They should just give tournament creators the power to remove/block players from entering before the start of a tournament, and the ability to boot/remove players out of time in ongoing tournaments. It would actually be easy to self-police against most the issues in tournaments if the creators had more powers.

And any additional powers would be abused by someone, and then BGA would have to deal with complaints about it. They aren't about creating more work for themselves.

I personally would like to be able to exclude people who have caused problems in the past even if their current karma qualifies them, but my option to do that is to run a private tournament. Open means open, not open except for the whims of the organizer.

Under which circumstances though? It doesn't make sense to block players from entering, since if they enter that means they are active right now. And it wouldn't be right to remove players who entered just because they haven't been active since the subscription date. They didn't do anything wrong.

Regarding removing players once the tournament has started, their opponent is already able to kick them out, we don't need to make things even worse by making the organizer a potential threat too. I'm not sure what issues you think it would solve if organizers could just remove players on a whim. The worst thing that can happen to a tournament is that a game doesn't get finished normally. But that's exactly what your suggestion does.

On a more general note, the way a tournament works can only be determined before a tournament starts. We can't give organizers the power to decide things during the competition based on personal opinion. This is subjective and it also opens the door to corruption. That's not how any competition works in the real world. Everything that happens once a competition has started follows pre-established rules.
