Rules summary needs updating - Winning points/rounds unclear

Post by amazing_crow »

The game seems to end after 2 rounds, regardless of whether 12 points was reached, as said in the rules.
Also, it looks like it only plays the Expert Diving variant, meaning you can both play cards that are 1 higher and cards that are the same color in the same round, whereas the rules seem to indicate the normal version only allows one of these two types to be played per round.
I may well be misunderstanding the rules, or the rules summary needs an update and more details - which I can gladly do!

Really nice game, maybe would benefit from a few more tweaks to make it more fitted to online playing (the rounds can be going on endlessly and I've seen it discourage some players who abandon the game and give up on playing it). Feel free to message me here or privately if you want to discuss it more! :)

The points total is definitely strange, I think you're right that it ends after 2 rounds.

As for the variant, in game creation, it looks like "normal" is actually using expert diving, and "recreational diving" is without it

@amazingcrow There's one thing I don't understand, and I can't find it anywhere: sometimes after my turn my opponent also receives a card, and then it's my turn again. I don't understand why this happens.
Sometimes it seems to keep giving cards while I haven't emptied my hand. Do you know why this is?
Also, why is it that when I empty my hand I can't use the new cards to play on the opponent's stack? This is so annoying!!

There's also a mistake in the rules summary, with the following line:

"Play a higher card: Play a card with a value exactly 1 higher than the top card in the center. A Beach with value 0 follows a Ray with value 4."

If we follow the first part of the sentence, the example should quote any value 5 card following a Ray (4), not the Beach (0)!

It automatically draws a card and pass the turn if there's no card you can play (you have no card that is +1 or the same color of the one on the centre pile), sometimes that happens 5 times in a row and it looks like it just keeps giving you cards.
You can only play on the opponent's stack during the turn where you're playing a card in the center. If you have emptied your hand, the new cards come from a new turn and you must play in the center again to play on the opponent.

That's because the cards in play only go from 0 to 4, the card with number 5 only ever exists as a base of our pile for points and is not played. They added this to remove confusion of expecting to play a 5 after a 4 x)

Thank you for the explanation. How come my opponent sometimes also gets a card?
