Why can't we contact the Mods/Admins?

Post by -Nazghul- »

Today I faced a really unpleasant incident.

I got to play tichu on arena mode and my partner was trolling the whole game.
To give you an example.
I call Grand Tichu, opponent tichu, my p also tichu, he was passing all round.
He GT,tichu pass all round.
I GT he pass me dogs.

When you go to report someone through the report function I did not find a way to bring this up to the admins/mods.

For anyone wondering here is the game I am talking about:
https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=900004899

Should people get unpunished for ruining someone's else day by doing this. I know some of you will say its just a game , move on, forget about it.
And yes I already try to forget about it but why would such a person get away with such a behavior and who knows maybe he will do it to someone else as well.
Not only he ruined my gaming experience but my opponents also didn't like winning in such a bad way.

This was not a game of "he played like this because he couldnt play in a different way because of his cards" it was 100% trolling. There is no doubt about it.

Anyways, for now I just RT'd this person but I feel that this as a solution is very very bad. Admins/Mods should take action on such "Trolling" behaviors when they are plain obvious and there is not much work needed to figure that out.

Admins/Mods of this website I would like to hear your opinion on this.
There must be some sort of punishment to this person (maybe a 30 day ban? maybe get him to 10% karma so he cant play arena till he improves his karma? ideas floating around). Not to mention I should be getting my points back but let's not even go that far. If I was in rank1 and this game was very important I would honestly would have taken it that far.

Hi all,

I am 100% with -Nazghul- regarding the game itself. It was a waste of time, no fun at all, also not for me although I "won" it. But also I will think about this quite some more days I guess and in the end this kind of behavior - if happening more often (first time for me though) - at least makes me think about leaving the platform.

The trolling player was not saying anything, only at the end of the match when it was over. Based on the comment it seems he wanted to punish -Nazghul- based on a previous behavior, but what might have happened was not specified. -Nazghul- even asked during the game why he is trolling without getting any answer. So trying to understand the problem on a communcative way was not working either. And independent whether there was sth. before or not this behavior is not acceptable.

While finishing the game we were also trying to stop it, but everyone, even the trolling player must agree, obviously he did not. My suggestion for an improvement is that in case that all but one player agree to stop (at least for semi-coop games), then this game is interrupted without punishment for all four players. This would have allowed us to stop, block that player and proceed without wasting so much time.

I dont know how important it is for Nazghul to get the points back, but it would be the correct way forward. Actually even to remove my points as well.

Thanks

Just answering your question. I am pretty sure the reason we cant directly contact admin or mods is because, if we could, they would never get to sleep again. They would be inundated with messages 24/7. With 95 percent of those being complaints.

There are over 1300 games on this site. The mods cannot possibly know them all well enough to determine bad-faith behaviors even when you might think they are “plain obvious”. For example, as someone who doesn’t play Tichu, your explanation might as well have been in Klingon for all the good it does me to understand the situation.

Which is not to say there aren’t ways things could be improved. There probably are, but messaging the admins/mods and expecting them to know the ins and outs of every game is not the solution.

It is more of "Why cant we contact mods/admins" from the report feature for such behaviors. Of course they can't monitor all games played on the site. I completely understand that.

Nobody said anything about them monitoring all games. Please re-read what I wrote: I said it is unreasonable for the mods to know the rules to all the games well enough to recognize "obvious trolling behaviors". I gave the example that I, for one, haven't the faintest idea what your Tichu example was about, and why should we expect the site admins to recognize that "passing dogs" is somehow a bad thing or trolling behavior?

Now, suppose we could contact the mods about this stuff--what would stop this other player from further trolling you by reporting you as a troll to the mods? Then they'd have to waste their time learning the rules of Tichu and looking over your game only to see that you in fact were acting reasonably.

Anything that requires the staff to be very familiar with the rules to 1300+ games (let alone apply that knowledge to any and all complaints about gameplay) is simply not a feasible solution.

We don't even know if "passing dogs" is a linguistic expression, or if actual dogs are in the game.

To be honest, I thought this was why cooperative games don't have Elo, but looking up the game, it does seem to have Elo. Maybe that's because it's both competitive and cooperative? But that's weird, because it can be trolled in the same ways fully cooperative games can be, as shown here.

Not a big deal, just move on. If the player isnt cheating, harrasing or using insulting languages just move on.
