Scoring Arena Points

I hate the random scoring points aspect of Catan Arena games. I just lost 10-9 to a player who was ranked 70 points higher than me, and I received zero points. That makes absolutely no sense.

You‘re second. You get some negative points for the loss against the first and some positive points for the win against the third.
Then the total is divided by two, the number of opponents.
How close it was doesn't matter. How should the arena system calculate that for each game?
Depending on your ranks you don't lose much or anything for your loss but may also don't get much for your win, so that the rounded mean of the total is zero.

Of course how close the game is should obviously matter. Me losing 10-9 to a player who is ranked 70+ points higher should not result in me losing any points in this game. Me losing 10-4 (but still coming in 2nd) to a player ranked 70+ points lower should result in me losing some points. The rules here are arbitrary and always defended fiercely by the moderators. Improving the game should be the moderators number one rule. Believe me there are numerous improvements that could be made to improve CATAN.
